Re: BMW 380 Windscreen vs Sports Bubble

has anyone tried the 380 bracket with a Cee Bailey or Cal Scientific screen compared to the OEM 380 shield? I like the 380 bracket and want to know what the best screen is for it? I'm 6.0 with a Sargent seat.

Rubber fork boots

I was looking to install some fork boots on the tops of my 1150R's forks. Has anyone done this? If so, what boots did you use and how were they secured?
thanks!

Replacement heated grips

So I've worn out my throttle grip cover down to the throttle tube and am looking to replace the grips. I suspect that there are many options, however I am the kind of owner that likes to keep things mostly stock or stock like (whatever that means). Given that, my grips were the ribbed style, do othe...

Re: Loose lug nuts

Thanks for the feedback. I have since removed my lugs, cleaned them up and inspected them. No elongation that I can notice. cleaned out the threaded holes, and criss cross torqued in stages up to 77 lbs. Also, I have chained a watch dog to my bike at night, smudged and sent my ex in-progress flowers...

Loose lug nuts

Maybe this is very odd, however I as riding today about ready to get onto the highway when I noticed a wobble on my R1150R. I pulled over thinking it was a flat, however the rear wheel was loose, all the nuts out about 2+ turns. The odd part is that the last time I had the rear wheel off was 6 month...

Re: Parabellum Installed - First Impressions

I had a 23" Parabellum on my 1150, (I'm 6' with high seat that I shaped flat, lost about .75" at the high point) super performance at speed, the wind protection at 65 mph was as almost just as good at 110 mph. An odd thing however was that I also had a Nissan Signal Minder and at night the...

Re: Another failed ABS issue:

thanks MacX, I'm with you about taking care of my bike myself whenever possible, actually in the 35 or so years of owning, wrenching, and riding, having my brake work done at a dealer was the first time anyone ever wrenched on any bike of mine. I will buy the Bone Yard funnel and jump into this myse...

Re: Another failed ABS issue:

hmmm, as I re-read my own post I decided to check my brake switches. Just seemed too odd that the brake light stayed on. As it turns out, my GS hand guard on the throttle side had rotated just enough to hold the brake lever in activating the brake light and disabling the whole sha-bang. Adjusted the...

Another failed ABS issue:

Hi, I read about other folks ABS problems before only lightly interested, but now it's my turn. On my 04 R1150R, everything worked fine one day, the next day the ABS light blinks 4x speed, general warning light goes off after a few seconds, there is no servo whine when I apply the brakes, the bike s...

Re: Transmission output shaft seal

My FD boot used to leak enough to lightly cover that area, usually no real drips. I was running synthetic gear oil, then switched to non-synth and the leak has gone away completely.

Re: Brake Pad Poll..What Brand do you use?

I recall BMW specifying different pad for ABS calipers, is this just a BS so they can insure you use OEM parts instead of after market? Can you use any name brand pads for ABS or non ABS models?

Re: Seal Failure on Final Drive

I had a similar leak at the boot when using synthetic in my final drive, since I have changed to conventional and the leak no longer shows it's ugly head. It can't hurt to swap out and see if it helps your situation.

Re: Instrument Panel Lightbulb Replacement

you don't need to pull off the whole back side of the housing to change the instrument lights, just remove the torx fastener on each instrument and pull the gauge out the top. The illumination lights on each gauge can then be accessed. I changed mine over to red LED's from http://www.superbrightleds...

Signal Minder with mind of it's own:

OK, so this has happened to me too many times to blame on accidental button hits or thick gloves. I have a SM-5 Signal Minder that every once and a while turns on my hazard lights all on it's own. Rather odd, any one else have this problem?

Re: Can GS hanguards be used with throttlemeister, anyone know?

I had the same situation, existing Throttlemeister and new GS hand guards to install. you can make an adapter to use them together or you can call the Throttlemeister folks directly and they will sell you a GS hand guard adapter kit. I bought the kit, I think about $20 however do not recall the exac...

Re: Changing the Air filter

I was able to change out the filter without loosening my tank, it was a little tight in there and putting the cover back on the air box was a little tricky to get the 2 tabs at the front of the lid into the holes on the box. Took all of a couple of minutes to change out.

Re: Throttle Meister with hand guards

I had the same problem when I mounted my GS hand guards. What I did was contact Throttle Meister directly and for about 20 bucks (I think) they sent me the GS with hand guard adapters. Very nice SS parts, well worth the money. Once installed, they space out the guard perfectly, allowing my to tighte...

Re: MRA Vario screen on R1150R

Agreed that opinions on screens vary widely based on rider size, seat height and whatever else. So another way to ask is 'how is the Vario compared to the Speedster screen? I took my Speedster screen off because of too much wind noise and buffeting at helmet level. Has anyone else replaced their Spe...

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis

I wonder if there is a simple way to align the clutch/spline interface. I know that on slash 2 BMW's (technically 61'-69', but the same as pre slash 2's from 55' to 60'), there is a way to align the transmission to the crank, a similar situation I think, by loosening the 4 bolts between the the tran...
