Re: Went for a ride today . . .
Hi CycleRob! So glad that you were able to get out on that beautiful bike and have some fun. I agree with you when looking at the weather in the NE and the snow they are getting. Yes, that record breaking low of 14F a couple weeks ago was bad. But only a couple days out of the riding season here. :)...

Re: Shock absorber wear ???
Mine gave out at about 25K. I could only feel it on a freeway speed road trip because the front end felt light and bouncy. Then I couldn't unfeel it on regular roads. (Could have just been in my head...) I installed the Ohlin's, the difference was night and day for handling/performance.

Crap! So glad that you are ok. Thanks for the visual breakdown and reminder that there are many jerks out there. I can't believe the driver didn't stop. So sorry that the first beauty was totaled, but the second one isn't too bad either. :-) Good for you for keeping it together!

Re: Camera mount advice please?
Hi Jed! LOL. I know what you mean. My first few videos from my regular camera shake so bad it just about makes me motion sick to watch them! I think you will be happy with the GoPro. But there will probably be times you are ready to through it on the freeway and run over it a few times. Especi...

First: Congratulations!! and Welcome.
Second: That is a low seat. Can tell by the length of the swoop between yours and pillions seat. The low seat is extraordinarily long.

Re: Camera mount advice please?
HI jed, Sorry I didn't see this sooner. Initially, I tried mounting my little point and shoot with video on a bar modified to fit between the windshield mounting bracket. BAD!!! Even attempting still pictures resulted in some blurry, blurry shots. I hemmed and haaed over a GoPro for ages. Until I wa...

Re: OT - Zumo 660 and Scale G4
We consistently ride 6 to 10+ hours on a charge without a problem. Just be sure to turn them off when you stop for long breaks and such. As stated, the charger is 110V. I don't know if they offer another charger or not. Mollygrubber: "throw it over your shoulder at a passing truck" - perfe...

Re: OT - Zumo 660 and Scale G4
My husband and I have the Scala G4's. I have a Zumo 450 (wired, no Bluetooth) and husband has the BMW Navigator III (Bluetooth). Both GPS units will cut into our connections for giving directions. But once it does break into your conversation it will take up to 30 seconds to re-establish communicati...

Re: Installing the Odyssey PC535 in the R1200R
Thank You Liam! Undertook this project last week armed with your instructions. Conversion went well and I'm very happy with the Odyssey. My stock battery hadn't quit yet, but it was sounding weaker and I didn't want to risk it. Great write up and great accompanying pictures.

Exactly my point. You can get a better look as parts start falling off of the Harley. Do post a picture of the ape-hangers.Xdot wrote:But I want to look like those Harley guys. I've even ordered a set of ape-hangers for my R!

Re: First Ride to Work
LOL. Congratulations. But give a recap in about two weeks...you'll be laughing at your anxiety. You will get over it quickly. Never ride side-by-side! Even if it is with someone you trust, you just never know what might come out of the underbrush. At a stoplight, you can sit side-by-side if you want...

Re: Leaking seal fixed.... I hope.
I suppose seals can come bad and they probably do. They can, however, for sure be installed without the needed amount of care. The latter happens in factories and dealerships. Agreed. Had many a discussion on the OEM single-lip seal and the ease of messing it up. Seems many people replace the seal ...

Re: Leaking seal fixed.... I hope.
Twice in one year was not enjoyable for me. First balance shaft seal was replaced at 12K. Then replaced again at 18K. Currently at 24,500 and not having a problem. Fingers crossed...
Edit: I have a suspicion that the second replacement was more from poor workmanship then a second bad seal...

I'm not partial to naming, but my father wants me to. His suggestions: Brunhilde or Valkyrie for my Norse viking heritage and the strength and awesomeness of the bike.

Re: Tires (again?)
My .02. I just installed my second pair of Dunlop RoadSmarts. Pleasantly surprised to get 12K out of the rear tire with some twisties, many country curves and a couple thousand slab miles. Love the tires, love the feel and grip across all road and weather conditions.

Re: Takeing a 1000 mile alone
+1 for SPOT. As stated, it is not for you but for the family. My husband bought one for me for his peace of mind. I took an 800+ mile solo tour last Thanksgiving and he thought he would be "thinking" of me too much, like other solo day trips I have taken. But he said he was pleasantly surp...
