Re: Aftermarket can's effect on fuel economy?

I've got a Remus 'Y' and can on my 1150 with a Power Commander 3. On trips 50+mpg is not uncommon, even with a passenger. Not to mention that includes occasional jaunts up into the triple digits listening to the beautiful sounds!

Re: power commander

My $.02 I have a Power Commander on my 02, along with a full Remus exhaust, K&N and cut down air snorkel. I must say, it's the best money I've spent on the bike. I also had it dyno-tuned from the place i bought it. They were running a special, $500 for a power commander, purchased, installed and...

Re: Disaster!!!! (I think)

$2,740 offer from the dealer? That's better than what mine quoted me. With 8600 miles, bags and new tires they offered me $2,500. Say nothing about the $8,600 rockster they had sitting on the floor.. Dealer trade ins are a joke. I doubt they were lowballing you because of the splines, Now knowing th...

Re: Disaster!!!! (I think)

Towerworker, As Boxermania stated, that ~$200 cost is based only on a new clutch disk, slave cylinder gasket, pressure plate bolts, Honda Molly lube and a few miscellaneous tools you might need to purchase. I've also found some BMW shops will not sell things like the flywheel lock and clutch disk ce...

Re: Disaster!!!! (I think)

To whom may be concerned, Spline failures are not an end all. There is alot of hysteria about it and I just want to point a few things out. 1. Spline failures are a real problem. 2. The clutch disk hub is too soft causing much of the wear on the input shaft, it could also be longer. 3. The transmiss...

Re: High gear clutch slipping

Assuming that nothing other than the clutch is bad you'll need two parts: 21 21 7 670 454 (clutch disk) and 23 12 2 352 156 (slave cylinder gasket) These parts should cost you about $150 if you order them offline from one of the BMW shops with lower pricing. A&S Motorcycles has a very nice Illus...

Re: Wanna Help with me with my carburetors?

Being able to perform a sync on the throttle bodies is one of the keys to a smooth running bike. It requires minimal tools and about a half hour of your time. A manometer is the only part you may not have, but fear not it's easy to get/make. There are manometers out there for sale, but with 15 feet ...

Re: High gear clutch slipping

I've got my bike torn apart for a spline lube/inspection/data gathering right now. Its a fairly simple process (thank you BMW) but i don't have anything as of yet. There is a link on the Clutch Spline Failure post of a guy who did his GS, but he removed the telelever from the transmission, which has...

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis

I finally tore into my 2002 R last night with the help of another board member. The results at first sunned me. My splines looks fairly good... There was wear after 9900 miles, the token shiny spots were starting to form and slipping the disk on and off the splines did result in a bit of a 'hang' or...

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis

....its bunk! Well, maybe not entirely. Since only a small percentage of these bikes are prone to CS failure, one might assume that a rider's shifting technique can contribute to if and when it will happen. I think about that every time I shift. Any machine that is designed for the average consumer...

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis

That's the one, but they show removing the rear wheel, then the telelever/driveshaft and then then the transmission. Last bike we did, we left the rear tire on and rolled it away from the bike as one whole transmission/telelever/wheel assembly. It's a bit ungainly so two people make it much easier t...

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis

bransan, The input shaft isn't the part that is causing all this grief. It's the splines inside the cluch hub that are wearing out and failing. Did you remove the clutch disk and clean out the old grease to inpsect it's splines? I thought that one needed to pull the whole tranny and driveline rear ...

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis

I'm surprised this thread has picked up again from all the negativity surrounding it the first go around. As an update to an earlier post I haven't had any luck with any aftermarket clutch disk manufacturers. My current approach is to have a replacement clutch disk center section machined and proper...

Re: Opinions needed....water for gas?

My father was a US Navy pilot during WWII and Korea. He used to tell of water injection systems used on the large radial engines in the aircraft he flew. Helped performance under certain conditions and also had engine cooling benefits. I guess there are benefits and applications but takes someone w...

Re: ABS Red Light

That sounds less like the ABS light and more like the behavior of the Alternator light. That is correct behavior for the alternator light as well, since it takes a few RPM to get the alternator to self excite and start charging the battery.

Re: enough on Spline Failures

Sweatmark, Great writeup, and glad to see a few other people are giving this serious thought. As I posted on one of the other Spline threads, the hardness of the original clutch disk is only 22rch. Talking with one of the clutch manufacturer's I've contacted in regards to producing an after market c...

PM Sent. :)

I've hear of other's leaving the bleed nipple in the bike, but quite frankly, I don't understand why it wasn't on the bike in the first place! :?

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis

Some more info regarding Clutch Splines and possible cause for failure. I had recently received a failed clutch disk and splined input shaft from Boxermania and helped Obaid put a new clutch in his '02 R The part numbers on the clutch disks that had failed were the same (21.21-2333262) The box that ...

Re: Right turn signals screwy!!

Have you actually checked the bulb in the rear to make 100% sure it works? That is my suggestion. If it works then you've got a cut wire or loose connector somewhere on the back turn signal. If it worked before and just started doing this I'd put money on the bulb. The reason this happens is because...
