Re: Oil analyis reports - virgin BMW 15W-50 vs 6,000 mile sample
Don,
Thanks for sharing this very useful bit of information. And if any Blackstone Lab associates are browsing this forum, my thanks go out to them, as well.
BTW, about how much does one of these oil analysis run?

Re: Another Skid Plate option
Great looking plate! I'm definitely needing one of these, but I am really leaning towards the GS plate. It's not cheap, but I like it's functionality and looks. I've been extremely happy with the GS aluminum cylinder head guards. Haven't needed them yet (knock on wood), but they feel/look like they'...

Re: Progressive Insurance ! ... my "good morning" surprise...
I had State Farm before switching to Geico this spring. Since I only insure the bike with comp/collision for 6 months out of the year, I was paying close to $800 on a $1200 annual premium. It went up for no reason this spring and after activating the comp/collision, my agent called me a couple days ...

Re: Any vibe-free mirror solutions?
I've been extremely happy with the improved performance and looks of my F800GS mirrors. Very little to no buzz at cruising speeds of 4k rpm or less and just a slight buzz between 4k and 5.5k. Total cost was $130, probably cheaper in the states. My apologies for the extremely crappy iPhone pics. Ligh...

Re: Progressive Insurance ! my "good morning" surprise...
I just recently switched to Geico with 100/300 and my annual premium is $540 and I'm still in the high risk category due to my age (24). No tickets or accidents and 6 more months until I magically gain the knowledge of how to ride/drive safely...

Re: DIY Maintenance 1st attempt – success!
Thanks for the success story and photos. I have been wanting to do some DIY maintenance on my bike for a long time, but I don't have a garage nor a lot of the tools required. I do my own oil changes, but that's about it. The maintenance is intimidating for me, never worked on a bike before, and work...

Re: First Minor Accident , lesson learned. Don't do this....
Well.. A few months after getting my bike a couple years ago, I thought I'd go exploring and scouting out some land. I was on a narrow gravel road with a pretty decent incline. Unfortunately, my path was all but disappearing, so I decided that I must concede and turn around. It was tricky; loose gra...

Re: Stress Cracks
I wonder if this was caused by over tightening the screws for the windscreen? And people laugh at me when I ask for torque specs on almost everything. Anyway, I agree with the above posts. Did you install it yourself, or was it already on the bike when you purchased it? If it was, then I would defin...

Re: Windshield Bracket
Don C, fantastic job with the spacers. I really liked your idea and will probably embark on my experimenting this summer. One thing to note about Delrin, I was reading that it is susceptible to stress corrosion cracking when introduced to chlorine. Even the small amount of chlorine found in potable ...

Congrats on the purchase. I, too, am one that bought without taking one for a test ride first. ..The trip home was a pleasant surprise to say the least.. Peter I was nervous as hell on my way home. Fighting rush hour traffic on a brand new bike. My knees were almost shaking with anxiety. Once I park...

Re: 150 MPH
140mph "indicated" was my max. Give or take one or two mph. The speedo is a bit shaky at that point and I really didn't want to look at it for long. Done it twice, probably won't do it again.

Re: R1200R PHOT0 GALLERY
Glad to see you enjoying your bike, Matt. Welcome home, too!
It's clear enough up here in Alaska to start riding, but I'm still expecting one big snowfall, so I'll wait another couple weeks before uncovering the bike. Plus, we have tons of gravel on the roads.

Re: 2011 R1200R CALENDAR - Theme ideas please
Another option would be to do the normal bike shot, with like a favorite mountain road or something, and then have a small inset photo of the owner and bike with a small caption. Just an idea, but I do hope to get in on this action for 2011.

Re: New Luggage for the R12R
I think they look fantastic. Might look good too to paint a bit of that sport screen the same color, maybe the upper portion and the lower portion black (above and below the "V" ridge that cuts the screen in two if that makes any sense)

Re: Computer question
I didn't think that there would be a way for the rider to reset the lamp themselves. My comment was more of a generalization regarding newer automobiles. Usually like holding the trip reset button for a predetermined amount of time with the key in the accessory position or whatnot. @OP, hopefully yo...

Re: Computer question
My experience with service indicator lamps is that they can be reset by the user. Usually it involves some sort of sequence involving the key/buttons. Check out your owner's manual to see about that. I'd check it out myself, but I don't have my book with me at the moment.
