Re: Third fuel strip in 600 miles
Mine is still the original. From 2007. It indicates 30 miles remaining when the tank is running dry. Other than that, it's still OK.

Re: More on new R12R with Video
To me the new bike looks a bit like the old K100, not so good. But its growing on me. First ride reports are showing up now.

I think it's worth the higher of the numbers you've mentioned. You might want to wait until spring when more people are bike shopping.

Re: Brake pads and rotors
I'm also using the EBC rotor on the rear. It's my own fault as I didn't notice that the rear pads were worn out, and scored the rotor. Even before the damage, it was showing a lot of wear. The EBC rotor diameter is slightly larger, but it doesn't affect fit or function. You need a special long Torx ...

Here's another artists impression:
Both of these photoshop jobs that we have seen look better than the factory concept bike to my eyes. I especially like the orange one.

Re: New Roadster
There's a new spy shot at MCN. But you have to look into the K1600 bagger article to see it.

Re: Gauge cover
The part arrived. Nothing to it really, just one piece of molded plastic. It snaps right on in a few seconds. It doesn't interfere with the buttons, they still work fine. It has a Wunderlich logo that wasn't shown in the auction. I'm happy with it.

Gauge cover
I think this looks good, so I've ordered one. I'll post again when it arrives. They have silver and fake carbon fiber too.

Re: Odd no start - siezed? Help
A big twin is always going to be hard to push start, I'd expect it to take three guys. Two guys pushing and one bouncing on the seat to get traction. It might still be the battery, you should get a meter and monitor the battery voltage while cranking. If that's good, you can take the spark plugs out...

Re: R1200R seats.
The comfort saddle is wider and more comfortable. All of the seats are interchangeable. You don't need the strap if you have the handles behind your seat. But the strap doesn't hurt anything. I am replacing my 52537706416 BENCH SEAT - 800MM Standard on 2007-2010 which i find very uncomfortable for a...

R1200R seats.
I made a list of R1200R seats with part numbers, to try to clear up some confusion with an ebay vendor, I thought I'd also copy the information here. This should probably be in a FAQ. Much of this is copied from the Max bmw site. BMW R1200R seat part numbers. 52537713114 BENCH SEAT EXTRA-LOW - 760MM...

Translated: The undisguised appearance so has its pitfalls. That 's not just people beyond the ideal measure so, but also motorcycles. Especially if there are modules which a concealing shell would do well. With the new BMW R 1200 R, these are undoubtedly the new water cooler and the familiar Telele...

Re: Don C block help needed
I don't have a late model R1200 to look at here. I've been wondering if there is significant distance between the windshield and the back of the instrument cluster on these bikes. If there is room there, it might be a better idea to tilt the windshield by bending the upper rod of the bracket, in eff...

Re: Don C block help needed
Here's the thread that has the best solution we've seen so far:

I think that it's possible to make something simpler though, a piece of flat metal with four screw holes and bent into a U shape could probably do the trick.

Re: Trip meter problem
If you turn on the ignition, you should see the gauges initialize by sweeping to full scale and back. It should only do that once. But if your battery is weak, the gauges may initialise again after starting the bike. This is a sign of a weak battery. I've noticed that in this case my trip meter some...

Re: Clutch (and Brake) Lever Upgrade?
A while back, I ordered a pair of long orange anodised CNC machined levers from eBay. Ithought that the orange levers might look good next to my orange faux Rockster stripes. And the price of only 25 bucks seemed too good to be true. It was too good to be true. They don't fit. Not even close. They a...
