Re: dash symbal
Probably "Lamp Test" so you know the test circuit and indicator are working. ABS symbol does the same thing.

R bars on an RS?
I really like the RS, but the bars are too far forward for my short arms. The top of the triple clamp has slots for conventional bars under the cast aluminum RS bars. Has anyone tried putting the tubular bars on the RS?
Thanks,
Scott

Re: R1200R leg protectors to eliminate noise/buffeting
With respect to the buffeting, I'm just guessing but in addition to having the windshield slanted (like with the Don C. block) it may help to have the windshield come down around the sides of the headlight. That seems to stop a lot of the air from coming up the "tunnels" on either side of...

Re: New R1200x seating positions.
I did not notice any difference in the foot pegs. The bikes are the same chassis and tank. Just the bars are different. Plus the faring. When the rep said I could put the R bars on it I did not believe it. But upon examination, the cutouts for the bars are in the triple clamp, right under the RS cas...

New R1200x seating positions.
Just sat on the new R1200R an RS at the Long Beach show. The R feels pretty much the same, but the RS has a much longer reach to the bars and one leans somewhat forward. Not like a sport-bike, but more than the roadster. Interestingly, the cast aluminum bars on the RS can be removed and the R tubula...

I still ride my K75 a couple times a month, but I don't even think about the idle lever on the R.

Re: Riding Style & Tranny Bearing Life
There really should not be anything you could have done to damage the bearings. My guess is one just had bad metallurgy and started to fail. that produced debris which ate the other two. In which case changing them all is a very good idea. Transmissions on these bikes are not normally a problem. Goo...

Hi Mike,
Sorry to hear about your spill, and glad you have survived. I cannot blame you for hanging it up. I am sure you will miss it. It was meeting you on the the WVC breakfast rides.
Take care,
Scott

I have always run BMW filters, but is there something particularly bad about US made Mann filters?ammolab wrote: Many Mann filters are US made now, do not use them.

Re: Odd no start - siezed? Help
Your motor is not seized. I have attempted to bump start my R1200R on hills. It takes a steep hill, a lot of speed and 6th gear to do it. Otherwise the wheel skids. It also takes a battery is excellent condition and tight terminals to turn it over, so there is you most likely problem. Those are BIG ...

Re: New Roadster
It looks to me like this is the new HP2. There may be a standard roadster on the way too. From MCN:
“Our target was to aim the boxer roadster at a younger audience than the R1200R, which will still exist. We want to widen the BMW image; not just change it.”

No grey hair yet (I am 55). With all the squids on loud sport bikes and Mohawk helmets up there, it does not take they long to find their prey. The CHP guy on Mulholland usually just waives at me.

Interesting, but they do not list the actual PPM for the ZDDP. BMW calls for 1200 PPM. Too much will kill you catalytic converter.

Another adavatage of an R1200R
Last Sunday I decided to take ride to the Rock Store (Malibu CAI) to scrub in my new tires. Going up Malibu Canyon Road, I came to a motorcycle inspection being run by LACo Sheriff motor officers. With my roadster sporting a windshield, bags and me in day-glow ATGAT, they just waved me past!

Re: Thumbs up for Valdi's Moto Zone in Torrance CA.
My PR2s lasted 15K miles, so I hope these do as well. The rear must have been pretty flat in the middle, and the bike sits noticeably higher now, and rolls into corners so much easier with a round tire!

Re: Thumbs up for Valdi's Moto Zone in Torrance CA.
Yes, that did include both tires. Mounting and balancing was $20 a wheel. Tires were $315 total, plus taxes and state fees.
Last time, I took it to the dealer (wheels on) they charged my $550, so this was a bargain.

Bought new PR3's on the roadster today. Took the wheels over to Valdi's and he mounted and balanced them for $380. About $100 less than I paid at the dealer last time. He even cleaned the brake dust off of the rims! He is an independent BMW shop and was a pleasure to do business with. http://valdis-...

Re: twin cam exhaust?
The exhaust flap is to give better mid-range power. Since it is open a full power, removing it will probably do nothing but reduce mid-range. A different muffler might save a couple pounds. One of the mags tried the $1500 Akroprovic pipe and header on the K1600. It made 2 HP more at full throttle, b...

Thanks for the socket size info.roger l wrote:You will need a 34 mm socket. I replaced my belt last weekend and I went and bought a 34 mm socket. I found one at Advanced Autoparts for $15.00. The Gates tool and the 34 mm socket made putting the belt on very easy.
