Re: Tankbags?

I'm using the SW-Motech Bags-Connection Quick-Lock Engage bag with the optional map holder. The bag is not waterproof and the cover needs a bit of extra sealing to perhaps be waterproof. I use it mostly to hold my 2L water bag plus a few small items in the side pockets. The map case required a bit o...

Re: Third fuel strip in 600 miles

Had the fuel strip replaced in my '13 R1200R at around 17k miles. It had started giving strange results (not like the totally dead failure when the one went on my 09). One time it said I had 196 miles to go just before I put in 4.9Gal and the fuel bars were going UP during that ride. That original s...

Re: Additional Lighting for '11 R1200R

My light solution probably won't work on the Barkbusters. My wife's R12R has them and I am pretty sure they would not safely support even the light weight of the LED lights. Mine are on older GS handguards (attached with custom bar end weights and bolts/custom washers from Excel Throttle Control) so...

Re: Additional Lighting for '11 R1200R

I have a reasonably effective (if ugly) solution - I mounted some now low price, very lightweight LED lights from China on my BMW handguards. They are powered off of a switched circuit on my Eastern Beaver fuse block, so they come on after the bike starts up. They are for being seen rather than ligh...

Re: Any one notified of Fuel Pump Flange Recall yet?

Received it for the 09 R12R on Saturday - of course that is the bike that I traded to Max's back in July in CT and that the NY store sold in November....

Re: Range on a full tank...

On '09 R1200R, the MTE was dead on. One 300 mile tank, the MTE said 9 miles and it took 5.7+ gal (Natchez Trace traveling at the speed limit) On my barely broken in '13 R1200R, it said 17 to go when it sputtered and died - fortunately just before a downhill to the exit ramp with a gas station near t...

Re: Help me spend my money (on a r1200r)

Max's in CT has my '09 with 30k miles on it - no price posted (I couldn't resist the "offer you can't refuse" he made for a trade on a '13 Blue one to go with my wife's '12 Red one). I can't really speak to the power improvements, but I really do like the new instrument pod - it actually s...

Re: New 2013 R

Congratulations! I hope you enjoy yours as much as we enjoy ours. In fact, I picked up my 2013 Blue R1200R on 6/22. I was riding my 09 R12R home from NJ to VT and stopped by Max's CT on the 20th to be home for my anniversary that night. He had really pretty blue one on the floor. I jokingly asked if...

Re: Range on a full tank

Hmmm - I usually fill up around 220 miles (09 R1200R). If I keep the speed down or am riding on secondary (flat) roads here in NJ, I normally see gas consumption readings from the display of upper 40s. On a segment of the Natchez Trace last summer, the bike showed 9 miles to empty when I filled up a...

Re: Retro reflective tape R1200R Classic

Cy - I have those black reflective type tape panels on my bags - but - it seems like they don't reflect as well as a white reflective tape. Maybe it's just me I'll have to look at yours. I am not sure it is as reflective as the web site shows. Neither I nor my wife have been behind the bike at nigh...

Re: Retro reflective tape R1200R Classic

I ordered a set of R1200R/RT bag reflective decals from Applied Graphics: http://www.reflectivedecals.com/r1200rt.htm I figured if I was going to ride this winter in NJ (when reasonable), I needed everything I could get to make the cages aware I also have Cree LED lights from Whitehorse mounted on t...

Re: Better MPG

Re Avg MPG vs Instantaneous - the Cam heads have both I believe, the older bikes like my 09 just avg. When the strip is working on my bike, the miles to empty is incredibly accurate as you get down to the end. I had one really good ride (fortunately) on the Natchez Trace (few gas stations) and fille...

R1200R Classic in all Bloomingdales!?

See http://www.mediapost.com/publications/article/181879/bloomingdales-throws-leg-over-bmw-for-mens-line.html?edition=50698 for details about a cross promotion between Bloomingdale's and BMW for putting R1200R Classic's in all the stores with cross sell to the local dealer. Re: Anybody Use the Touratech R1200R/Suzuki Bandit Handguard

How about the Barkbusters Storm S1? http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/4880/ Max's NH installed these on my wife's '12 R1200R after discovering they couldn't "correctly" install the GS guards. They work well and seem to provide as much protection as the regular GS ones on my...

Re: Heading to Canada Saturday (Montreal, Quebec) anyone aro

Sorry Don - won't be there - sounds like a fun trip. I would suggest using US 5 rather than I-91 in VT (of course unless you want to do VT 100 or VT 14, both great North/South secondary roads)

Re: Trade R1200R Comfort Std Height Saddle For Tall?

+2
My wife's 12 R1200R has the std height comfort and she would prefer the high version (we were just worried about not getting the lowered version and didn't know about the high version!)
Of course I wouldn't mind one on my 09, but I am sure nobody wants that std seat - an airhawk works well enough.

Ah Rt 50 - did it in 2010 on the way back from Redmond - Sacramento to St Louis. Gave up in IL due to towns every couple of miles. I need to do the W VA portion sometime. Only rain was a bit in the CO mountains. Thought of doing it this time on the way back from MOA Rally in MO (via AR, LA, MS (Natc...

Re: Tripometer discrepancy

I noticed the 7 mi difference between the trip odometer and the main one (+7 on the trip) on my wife's new '12 R12R. Showed it to the dealer tech and he was surprised. Of course (as I just discovered after 2 1/2 years) after a 1000 miles, the trip odometer rolls over, so you will eventually lose tra...

Re: Final Drive Update/Question

On the 1150GSs and presumably on the 1150R, 50k was about normal for the first failure (mine happened at 57k I think). The common wisdom is that the failures are due to inaccurate shimming and that quite often the replacements are not checked for this and so can fail again. Tom Cutter in Yardley, PA...
