Re: R1200R leg protectors to eliminate noise/buffeting

Yes, it's a Memphis Shades Alley Cat. The brackets are custom made from parts mostly available from McMaster-Carr, although the brackets that move the headlight up and out are cut from 3/16" aluminum stock.

Re: R1200R leg protectors to eliminate noise/buffeting

With respect to the buffeting, I'm just guessing but in addition to having the windshield slanted (like with the Don C. block) it may help to have the windshield come down around the sides of the headlight. That seems to stop a lot of the air from coming up the "tunnels" on either side of ...

John,

The Skully is cool - I hadn't seen it before. I hope they send one to Sharp although I wouldn't blame them if they didn't want to make that investment.

Schuberth C3 vs Caberg Duke

I was looking for a replacement for my Nolan N-102 last year and tried on a Schuberth C3 at the BMW dealer. I really liked it and started looking into it a little more. I came across the Sharp helmet rating web site in the UK: http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/ The Caberg Duke was the only one that was rat...

Re: Recommend Me a Helmet!

Nippess,

When considering helmets you might also look at the Sharp rating at http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/. There appears to be a wide range of impact protection for helmets that meet minimum DOT or EC standards.

Re: Roadside Assistance

Mark, You might try BMW Motorcycle Owners of America. Annual membership for non - US residents is $52 and roadside assistance is an additional $26. You also get a copy of the Anonymous Book, which lists phone numbers of thousands of BMWMOA members who are willing to help if you have a problem. I hav...

Re: Sargent Heated Seat

Barry, I mounted the controller using a 3/4" x 1.5" strip of 3M interlocking fastener and mounted an SAE connector under the seat latch so I could connect and disconnect the heater with one hand. I've been using it for three years now and it works well. http://i900.photobucket.com/albums/a...

The Ballistic Evo2 12 Cell Lithium Ion sounds pretty good based on a recent review of lithium batteries in Motorcyclist:

Re: FAILED ABS Unit

Very often a brake fluid change (not forgetting the brake fluid in the ABS unit) fixes the problem with faulty ABS units while dealers say that they need to be replaced. Has anyone had their brake failure light go off after a brake fluid change? Is it worth having the fluid changed before replacing...

Deceleration warning device

Just moving this to its own thread from the booster plug discussion: I lost one side bag due to a rider running in the back of me, and a few people who follow me have commented that I never seem to use the brakes. So.. I've also gotten in the habit of flashing the brake light when I'm about to slow ...

SF,
I really like the Schuberth C3 also. You might take a look at http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/testsratings/schuberth-c3 before you decide.

Re: More senseless violence against dead horses-yup, windscr

Anyone 5'9" to 5'11" ride with both the sport screen (or something similar) and no screen? How was it, long-term? Any other ideas? I've read all the windscreen threads at least a couple times now, but I'd love to hear from someone around my height that has something that gets decent reduc...

Mark, I was just about to start a thread on this when I saw your post. I went for a short ride tonight and the Brake Failure light never went off. The tire pressure was fine. I stopped and restarted the engine and the light stayed on. The brakes seem to work fine. Does anyone know of any potential c...

Can anyone tell me what the thread size is on the R1200R mirror mount, or if someone else has these mirrors, what adapter kit did you order? Brendan Brendan, The clutch/brake lever bases have a 10mm x 1.5m pitch and the adapters that thread into the bases both have a 10mm left-hand 1.25 mm thread i...

Re: Question for those that have wrecked an R1200R.

Jim, A friend of mine put the front wheel of his 2010 White R1200R off the road last fall and, after bouncing his head off the pavement pretty hard, slid down a grassy slope. He was a little groggy (and would have been a lot worse without a full-face helmet) and the bike didn't look too bad, althoug...

Re: R1200R vs. R1200GS

An observation and a question for you folks with GS and R experience. The observation is the the pictures I've seen of GSs have windshields that resemble those used on the Rs in size, shape, and attitude angle. In addition, the windshields seem to be set farther forward than on the Rs. The question...
