Re: Retro Kit

Beauty must me in the eye of the beholder. No disrespect, but the conversion is ugly beyond description. Almost as ugly as the new "classic" moto guzi model (saw two in a Phoenix shop a couple of week ago). :) Not only that, the kit is twice the price of the 1970 R75/5 I picked up a few mo...

Re: Vibration vs. RPM vs. Throttle Position

Hatepylons, Sounds normal. You should notice a big improvement at the 600 mile service when the valves are adjusted and the throttle bodies are synchronized. The engine takes quite a while to break in, but gets smoother with miles. Throttle position is probably not a contributing factor other than i...

Re: BMW/Exide Battery and BMW Charger LEDs

Did you turn on the key when you connected the charger to the socket? If I recall correctly, the BMW charger requires the bike's can-bus system and the charger to "hand shake" when first connected. After a few seconds the Key can be turned off. If not turned on the charger may not charge o...

Re: Range on a full tank

I usually fill up around 170 miles. Majority of my riding is 20 mile commute on very twisty country road with elevation changes. Riding style is not quite knee dragging. Bike gets around 40 mpg. Most I've been able to squeeze in at one fill up is 5.1 gallons. My first 2008 R1200R had fuel ...

Re: New member, new BMW owner..

Congrats! Mine is a 2009 (purchased new 10/2010). Great bike and gets better every ride! I had the dealer switch to synthetic at the 600 service. Unfortunately, engine has used oil at excessive rate since then. Took to dealer several time to have oil usage checked out. No real problem - rings will n...

Re: Rider down, sad but ironic

You pays your money and takes your choice…. Being a conservative kind of guy (aren’t all BMW riders?) I choose to ride with a helmet, but respect the decision of those who choose not to. The rider believed in his cause and paid the ultimate price. The real irony is that if the “Do Gooders and Uplift...

Re: Intro of Wilma my white R1200R.

Wilma and Leonardo, welcome to the group. I also have a 2009 in white. Great bike and great color! The dealer had a white 2009 and a blue 2010 in the shop when I got mine. I took the white one and have not regretted it for one minute. I think you'll be happy with the white as well. Congrats! Mark_1

Re: Varmint Cong!

BMW must have some kind of delicious ... :x Hmm, that might explain why several of the ground squirrel variety of rats charged my RR during a ride down 25 from Hollister, CA a couple of weeks ago. :-k Fortunately they did not survive the attempt to board at speed and were not able to get to my wiri...

Re: Soft Luggage For R1200R

I just bought a set of Fastrax saddlebags from the Modesto BMW dealership. Have not used them yet, other than riding home empty, but they seem to be will built and have lots of features (including a 4" inch expandable drop down section). The Fastrax may be a little smaller than the Wolfman bags...

Re: Inspired by ChiTown - need R1200R luggage!

Thanks for the eBay tip. Unfortunately, the eBay cases sold for more than my max bid. Still keeping my ears open for a good deal on system cases, but think I'll try out the Cortech Sport Saddlebags. Along with the Kriega US-30 Combo Tailbags (already have these) there should be enough room to hold e...

Re: Inspired by ChiTown - need R1200R luggage!

Thanks everyone. Especially nice to hear from you Chitown. Yes, camping is the plan. I have the camping equipment covered from hiking in the Sierras and on the AT, just need something to hold it. If I can find an inexpensive set of lockable BMW cases that would be preferable, but clearly not the onl...

Re: Inspired by ChiTown - need R1200R luggage!

Thanks for the eBay tip. The ad specifies, "Original equipment for a 2005 R1200ST" ... "Will fit 2003-2007 R1200R".

I have a 2009 R1200R. Did the system cases / mounts change after 2007? Anyone know if the 2005 cases will fit the 2009?

Thanks

Inspired by ChiTown - need R1200R luggage!

I've been reading ChiTown's story. Amazing adventures, can't believe the places he has taken his R. Makes me want to get out and do some traveling. Anyone have a set of luggage that is collecting dust, taking up garage/closet space, neglected and calling out for someone to love? If so and you would ...

Re: Interest in a smaller Boxer?

Perhaps we could persuade the Japanese to restart production of an updated Maruso ST - 500cc and 250 lb(?). Saw one of these in a junkyard in AZ. Looked like a fun little machine.
