Re: R12R Givi Top Box

I've gone the other way - kept the SW Motech Alurack that I already had fitted and modified the OE pannier rails (the ones that fit without the rack) to fit with the Alurack. I got used ones for £12 so didn't mind chopping them around. This does put the rear pannier mount about 1/4" further out...

Re: Ohlin Adjustment

I can't answer your question but have you tried contacting the company who supplied the shocks originally? They'd be in the best position to advise you about such adjustments. It could be that there's no static preload on the spring (so you'd therefore need a lighter spring to achieve what you want)...

Re: Got LOW Comfort seat..

There is some play there, the holes under the seat can't be exactly precise and they allowed for some moving around. The seat is still a bit wider on the right, were the last front rubber bumpers supposed to rest on the tank, there is about an eighth of an inch of space but i can live with that. My...

Re: Got LOW Comfort seat..

I too just received my low comfort seat and found I'm now sitting so far towards the rear, compared with the stock seat, that I now need bar backs. In addition, the low comfort seat changes the seat to foot relationship just enough that my knees are now cramped and I need to lower the pegs. Are you...

Re: R1200R Dual Headlight

I've not had my R12R for long enough to comment on battery life but once illuminated Xenon headlights typically draw half the current of conventional filament bulbs (wattage for wattage they are about 4 times brighter but most installations run at 2-3 times the brightness of a filament bulb and half...

Re: R1200R Dual Headlight

I would love a xenon light out front as a retrofit kit — I've got them on my autos — but they require so much juice to ignite, they'd kill our already weak battery. Sorry, but this is rubbish. The igniter puts only a momentary load on the battery and although I don't have any figures I'd hazard an ...

Re: Ambient temperature guage

Maybe I'm missing something here, but Fahrenheit is the accepted temperature scale in the US, right? So why do you want to change to Celsius - just because you don't like seeing fractions of a degree on the scale? Imagine what we have to put up with - half the time there's an annoyingly untidy "...

Re: Got LOW Comfort seat..

Yes, please! Particularly the OEM low seat - while the low comfort seat is AUD $731 (ouch) I am thinking seriously - it really depends on how much higher it is than the OEM low ... The "Comfort Seat Low" is the same height as the standard seat the bike comes with - nominally 800mm. Despit...

I think most of the reason is that recommendation is that running the fuel pump dry is likely to damage it. And the closer you get to a 0 mile range the closer you are to running the pump dry.

Re: Ambient temperature guage

It is no more useless than "miles to empty" (which I don't believe)...... I believe mine. Filled up this morning at 219 miles with it showing 15 miles to empty and took on 20 litres. That's 10.85 miles per litre consumption. 1 litre left in the tank and it reading 15 miles to go isn't far...

Re: The R1200R of Vespas .. g'day Jess

I had a GTS250ie for a while - great scooter but I found I always wanted to ride a bike instead so ended up not using it much. Riding two-up most of the time didn't help. If I want to ride something with small wheels I've got my '67 Lambretta. 8) A screen is an essential accessory for the GTS - it i...

Re: If you had to get rid of your R1200R

I just stumbled across the Aprilia Mana 850 GT ABS. Looks like it would be a good R1200R substitute, no idea though on how it actually performs. http://www.apriliausa.com/en-US/Model/31346/MANA+850+GT+ABS+/Overview.aspx It has a 76bhp engine, automatic gearbox, chain drive and a fairing. Other than...

Re: Bike won't start...

I worked for 35 years with low voltage, high amperage DC voltage. I can show you a AAA battery cell, the size of a short pencil, that puts out 1.5V and I can show you a cell the size of a 55 gal fish tank that puts out 1.8V. I saw someone drop a pair of pliers across one of those cells once and aft...

Re: If you had to get rid of your R1200R

Compared to the R12R it appears they had to reduce the compression ratio from 12:1 to 9:1 in order to supercharge it reliably. I didn't get to google translate the site and read it in english yet so I'm not sure what the output is so I can't judge if that is a good trade-off or not. However, normal...

Re: Bike won't start...

The bullet where it states to run the engine of the donor vehicle scares me. Since based on everything I have read, unless the donor is another bike, it has always been NOT to start the vehicle. Does BMW charge system differ from other bikes? The BMW system doesn't differ significantly from other b...

Re: If you had to get rid of your R1200R

I had a 1250SA for a year and I'm amazed that you consider it to be more agile than an R12R - IMO it's not even in the same league. It has very cheap suspension with what most riders consider inappropriate damping in the forks and contrary to what you say it's way heavier than the BM. And less power...

Re: DOHC Liquid-cooled Boxer for 2012?!?

I find it strange that BMW would put out a new motor just after releasing the DOHC, but Euro 4 emissions kick in in 2012. I'd be very surprised if the current models didn't conform to Euro 4 - 2012 is very close in vehicle manufacturing terms. As you say, with the twin-cam motor released only this ...

Re: If you had to get rid of your R1200R

While the new Multistrada intrigues me from a technical point of view it is not, let's face it, an attractive bike. Worse than that, it's not even distinctive (which at least the original Multistrada was). And I neither want nor need 150bhp in an everyday bike. It is an answer to the question I migh...

Re: DOHC Liquid-cooled Boxer for 2012?!?

Yep Honda has tried that for years on the Goldwing with little or no success. ;) Mark What are you talking about? Goldwings have always been water-cooled, BM boxer twins never have. People don't like change. Look how well HD did with their first water-cooled bike even though it was still a V-twin.
