Re: Tire Mileage

I went through PR3's and PR4's on my '03 R1150R in about 6,500 K. I was happy . . . until I put on some Angel GTs. What a positive difference! As Two Wheel Tango said, "Excellent choice; suits the bike." I don't know what the milage will be. However, if it is slightly less than the PR's an...

Re: Pillion seat latch is stuck!

Have tried all the suggestions above; no joy so far. I have removed the seat lock / helmet lock mechanism and have pulled directly on the cable end. It seems to be at the end of its travel. I have pushed down on the pillion, pulled up on the pillion (standing on the passenger pegs), pulled from one ...

Pillion seat latch is stuck!

I took off the seats and put them back on just a day ago. Today the pillion wont unlatch. The key turns in the lock. I can hear a slight mechanical sound as if a cable is pulling on a mechanism, but the seat will not come off! I can think of a several possible reasons why - such as a lock gone bad, ...

Great stuff! Thank you, guys. Especially you, Towerworker. Your reminder about the antifreeze service is right on. Every time I have done it on my 1150, I gained 11 horsepower.

I am an old new guy

I have been hanging out in the R1150R forum for a number of years. But someone just made me a very good offer on an '07 R1200R in excellent condition. I am very tempted to upgrade, but I thought I would ask for advice and feedback from R1200R owners. What should I look for that wouldn't be immediate...

Re: Loose Steering or something like that

I am sending you a link to a Ohlins suspension owners manual. And while you may not have an Ohlins suspension, I think you will find a lot of information in the manual about suspension and steering behavior, and suspension and steering adjustment. I think you may find some worthwhile information her...

I am sending you a link to the Ohlins suspension owners manual. I think you may find some wo...

Re: Windscreen decal

AutoZone sells a "kit" for polishing headlight covers. It contains a foam backing mounted on a drill spindle, and about 4 different grades of "extra fine grit, extra extra fine grit, super extra fine grit" plus a polishing compound for plastic. I have used this kit on all of the ...

Need advice on buy a bike in Britain

Now that I am retired, I am thinking of going to Britain for a year and buying a used bike to tour Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. I am thinking of going to Ireland first and making my purchase there. Has anyone bought a bike over there? Any advice about how to do it would be really appreciate...

"What setting are you running?"

Started at #7. Now running at #8. The bike runs effortlessly. It is somewhat like having pain disappear. You don't notice it is gone until you think about it. Smooth at high speed and smooth at low. Roll-on response still makes me smile.

Re: R1150R won't sync. No vacuum on the right side. Stumped!

Your reasoning is good since you never touched the stop screws, assuming no one else has. How many turns for each BBS? If they're close I'd leave as it is. Btw, even if you tweak the TPS you leave the throttle stops alone. The only reason to touch them is that someone else did. And if you ever need...

Re: R1150R won't sync. No vacuum on the right side. Stumped!

maccraith, When you change the TB shaft, you have to equalize the butterfly openings to the same flow/vacuum on both sides. That means BBAS (BigBrassAirScrew) passageways are soaked and sprayed clean, then each BBAS is set to something easy like 2 turns out. It is only then that you adjust the righ...

Exactly right! There was a chunk of congealed somethingorother in the nipple - probably from the cleaning process. Thank you very much, Sweatmark.

R1150R won't sync. No vacuum on the right side. Stumped!

I have a 2003 R1150R 75,000 miles on it. It was running beautifully with the AF-XIED set on 8. No surge. Lots of giddyup. The only problem was the clacking noising coming from the right throttle body. After research and diagnosis with a stethoscope, I concluded it was a worn throttle body shaft. I o...

That doesn't even sound possible - unless someone else removed the disc. Have you had the bike in for service anywhere?

Re: Any Rubber Chicken timing chain tensioner failures?

I had much the same experience. I replaced the timing chain tensioner which reduced the mechanical noise considerably. But two years later, the noise was back. I thought it was the tensioner, but when I used a stethoscope to locate the noise, it turned out to be coming from the throttle body. I boug...

Re: License Plate Light Replacement?

In AutoZone, I found a package of two LEDs mounted in 1/2" plastic cylinders that are capped top and bottom, but have a cutout section on the cylinder wall through which the light shines. They have wire leads. I soldered the leads of one to the bayonet connectors and glued the cylinder to the m...

Re: New to the R1150R

I think I understand your problem with the bouncing headlight. I had the same problem and fixed it. If yours is the same problem, a couple of steel tube spacers, or some stacked nuts used as spacers may solve your problem. When I removed my sport wind screen and replaced the bolts with which the scr...
