1150R seat
I'm thinking of buying one of these and my question is:- is the seat adjustable for height?
On some photographs I see of the 1150R, the rider's seat looks like it slopes down in some cases,
and others it looks level.
Many thanks.

Re: Rockster v 1150R spring rates
Trickytree, thanks for that.
In Ohlins case I'd have to find out if they would match springs to my just under 11 stone weight.
I'd also be interested how Ohlin spring rates compare to BMW original spring rates.
Mind you, I suppose quality (Ohlin) damping comes into the equation also.

Rockster v 1150R spring rates
I'm interested in both the Rockster and the 1150R, but have been unsuccessful so far in finding out if both bikes share the same suspension spring rates. I did once own a R1200R, but found the suspension too harsh, on anything but the smoothest roads. I quite like the look of the Rockster, but I'd b...

Re: Replacing the R1200R with what bike
I owned a 2011- 1200R (briefly) a couple of years ago. Superb engine and gearbox, but the ride was dreadfully harsh, and the seat poorly designed, and non adjustable. I tried aftermarket suspension, and it made no difference. Many modern bikes these days, seem to have very thin, hard seats, and rock...

Re: Mystery oil reservoir?
I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the engine breather vents into the air-box, and over time
oil collects as a result of oil mist?

2011- ESA Suspension question
I removed my ESA system some months ago, and am now replacing it. On the front suspension I can't remember which way round the electrical lead goes- facing forward, or backwards. Daft I know! I have the feeling that it faces backwards. Could some kind soul have a look at their ESA set up for me? Man...

Re: hello from new member
Welcome aboard. I don't know about the ESA, but I'm sure it can be adjusted per Don's recommendations, perhaps by the dealer (if no one here on the board chimes in). Once it's dialed in, you should it to be quite comfortable. The roadster is a great bike. I'm on number three. Bruce Agreed, the 1200...

Re: Wilbers suspension change question
Staffs-UK, (odd name.. but you're British so that's OK.. :) ) What tire pressure are you running? I'd suggest trying BMW's original R1200R recommendation - 32PSI/front, 36PSI/rear at 20C (and yes temperature does make a difference, a fairly significant one actually.) Many people run higher pressure...

Re: Wilbers suspension change question
Your shocks are sprung for your weight plus luggage. Is that how you have the bike loaded when you try the shocks? How close to the bumper does the shock travel? It should not only use a fraction of the travel. That would indicate incorrect sag or even a spring that's too stiff. How are your tires ...

Re: Wilbers suspension change question
Bill, Sorry I misunderstood your question. The original ESA s/absorbers were removed and the electrical plugs disconnected. As it happens no errors have shown on the instruments at all, and the ESA control is not utilised with the Wilbers set-up. I could have chosen to have the OEM- ESA gubbins buil...

Re: Wilbers suspension change question
I ask this because a month ago I removed my ESA set up and bought a pair of Wilbers (manual preload type). … What errors, if any, did the bike throw when you reinstalled with non-ESA shocks? Bill, I'm finding that when the front wheel hits even small bumps the handlebars kick hard through my arms, ...

Wilbers suspension change question
There must be quite a few 1200R owners on here who have replaced their OEM suspension with Wilbers. As a matter of interest what spring rates did you have? I ask this because a month ago I removed my ESA set up and bought a pair of Wilbers (manual preload type). I weigh just a tad under 70Kg. The sp...

Re: Screens compared
Thank you for the positive feedbacks. It is good to see that some of my experience overlaps with the one of other members. Cleary the fact that the Wunderlich fairing became my preference does not mean that this will be the optimal solution for all of us. As mentioned by others this will very much ...

Re: Screens compared
Thanks for posting what must be the most comprehensive evaluation of 1200R screens. I've been hoping someone would compare the Touring screen and Trophy screen, as I have the former, and am thinking of fitting the latter. I think I'll be saving for the Trophy! I think it's a worthwhile comparo - bu...

Finally found a lovely Twin Cam-but.....
Last week I was lucky enough to pick up a VERY reasonably priced 2011 red Twin Cam 1200R. It's done only 5500 miles and has most of the bells and whistles including ESA. I'm very pleased with it as you can imagine, and the engine and gearbox are outstanding. I've had many Bee-ems over the years, fro...

Re: Question by a new member from the UK
Thanks again for your responses. I am still determined to find a nice example, though am having trouble making my mind up whether to go for the SOHC or the later DOHC. I change my mind on a daily basis, though I think it'll eventually come down to price and availability. Sounds right to me. Even th...
