Re: A Wrenching question
Has the wrench rounded off the end of the filter? What brand of filter? Some of the cheaper filters have thinner metals that are prone to that particular problem. Options are not pretty. If you can get a strap wrench on it that would be best. As an absolute last resort, there is the dreaded "ra...

Re: Trunk for R1150R
I have the medium JC Whitney case (17-1/2"W x 15"L x 11"H Medium Matte Black Travel Trunk ZX277021). Great value for the money. It's not a Givi but it has never leaked and works like a charm. I customized my rear rack (cutting board mod) to give the mounting plate a flat surface to at...

Re: ELAST V-belt installation
Neal, what you say here is incorrect. The last 3 digits just indicate the length of the belt and not the feature "ELAST". You can buy a 4PK611 ELAST as well as a 4PK592 ELAST. Continental says that the 4PK611 (without Elast) is used in Hyundai cars and should not be used in oilheads. The ...

Re: ELAST V-belt installation
This is the way I understand the belts.... 4PK611 is a traditional polyester v-belt and is installed to a specific 'tension'. It has very little stretch to it. I won't describe the tensioning process... it is well documented. 4PK592 is a ELAST (elastic / stretch type) v-belt and is streeeeetched to ...

Re: Which of these oils should I use on a low-mile 1150r
I can only tell you what I would do, the ultimate choice is all yours... If it were mine I would run dino oil for at least the first 12,000 miles and make sure that the engine is broken in well before introducing it to any diet of synthetic. Personally I use Castrol 20w50 in every bike I've owned an...

Mine is ~7% fast - compared to my GPS and also confirmed by timing the distance between mile marker signs on the interstate.
Speedo Indicated 70 mph = Actual 65 mph.

Re: Cleaning guide
http://www.cyclecare.com/ I can't personally testify if they are any good or not but: These folks came to our local BMW club meeting and talked about their products a couple of weeks ago. I was quite impressed by the fact that they sell only to the motorcycle market. A small local family owned busi...

Re: Valve Adj Question
Dave, I'm gonna assume that you have enough info to get your plug wires off by now..... Regarding the Rocker Block adjustment..... You should at least measure your clearance while you have the covers off so you know where you stand. There is a good chance that they are causing *some* of the noise yo...

Pick a cylinder to be your primary (#1) and then balance the others to the primary one in succession. Just don't mess up and alter your primary one.

Re: Battery charged, but bike won't start
First of all, all batteries will eventually fail. I have had a few AGM batteries, mostly in ATV applications, fail over the years. Some have held up pretty well and some have performed miserably. They always seem to fail with the same flaky patterns.... they charge up and test well but then suddenly...

Re: Helllllllllp needed with tire change.
On one of NoMar's videos they give you the secret - leave the bead dry and only spray a bit of lube on the section where you will apply the tool. The dry tire sticks to the dry rim well enough to keep it from sliding. Make sense? Worked like a charm for me. I use the NoMar bar with HF changer. Even ...

Re: ABS Bleed part needed
Wayne,
I believe it is M18x2.5 pitch.
I have accumulated the components to make my own but have not done so yet. I bought a bolt that I intend to cut to length and center drill for the funnel. I guess I still have to find the appropriate o-ring for a proper seal.
Good luck, keep us posted.

Re: Vibration Banking Right
Sleep well Ves. My Pilot Roads with 12k miles on them do the same thing. Go a bit faster and they will howl too. The OEM Macadams were worse. I think you notice it more on the right turns because they are typically tighter turns than left turns.

Re: Tire Recommendations Welcomed
I won't make recommendations but will gladly share my experiences.... I run Pilot Roads and like them a lot. They handle good on the twisties and are solid in the rain. I weigh about 185 and usually have a fairly relaxed riding style. Cruise perhaps 72 mph on Interstates. Ride twisties on the weeken...

Re: Throttlemeister Cruise Control
It is not really difficult after you figure it out. I have mine marked where it lightly engages. I accelerate a little bit, pull in the clutch and let off the throttle at the same time, twist the Throttlemeister to where my mark is up, let out the clutch as I gently twist the throttle and that's all...

Hi Kristi, Have a great trip to the area. Looks like a fantastic Saturday and Sunday are upcoming in the Ozarks. Fear not the flood waters, it comes up fast but goes back down fast in these hills. Re: loom failure
I hate to dredge up old threads but it seemed pertinent. Oilhead, would this be the same TSB of which you speak? If so it would seem that the newer models would not be afflicted with this particular problem. I looked at the wiring harness on my 04 model and the wire ties do not appear to be at the s...

Re: Throttlemeister Cruise Control
The Throttlemeister works just fine and looks nice. It doesn't work as well as the Flip a lever type that I have on the R65 but that type will not work on the Roadster. I believe the 'standard' Throttlemeister is already heavier than the stock bar end weights so that is the way I went. It is possibl...

Re: DIY tire changing
This process always works for me. The secret is to put a large volume air into the tire all at once to make it pop. 1. Lube the beads all the way around. 2. Tighten a tie down strap around the tire as tightly as you can. 3. Remove the valve core. 4. Screw blowgun onto valve stem (remove rubber tip f...
