Re: To Plug or not to Plug
I holed a brand new PR 3 rear with less than 20 miles on it. The piece of steel was about 2mm in diameter, so the hole was very small and about an inch off center. After talking to my mechanic, I plug/patched it; making sure that all of the mold release compound was completely off of the patch area ...

Fuel Pump Ticking
As of yesterday, my fuel pump continues to tick over at a rate of a couple of pulses per second after the ignition is turned on. Strikes me that it's headed for failure. Has anyone experienced the same issue?
Thanks.

Mike,
Don't know what the root cause is, but different strokes for different folks. Maybe I should try growing a full beard! One off the members is going to take it off my hands, so we'll see how he does.

My Last Windshield
So I got the 12R out today; it snowed yesterday. Got it home and put on the new Gen II C-B 23" screen, I had high hopes! For me, and I repeat: for me, the onset of buffet was at 40km; on the highway it was unrideable at any speed. I'm 6'2" with a 34" inseam, the top of the screen was ...

Re: Violation of the Eilenberger Rule: Epilog
Predictable outcome if most of your riding is long distance. I rented a 2011 RT this year on our annual Arizona trip; prior years have been on a GS. I also spent some time on my buddy's K1300 GT. The GT is a license loser and a little tight in the knees, but the RT simply seduces you with the ease w...

Dewi,
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I'm sure that the side cases will go some way to "incorporate" that top case into the great esthetic that is the R1200R.

Re: Changing tires today. Going to Road Pilot 3's
Put new PR3's on my 12R last fall the day before it went to toy storage for the winter, so no experience on our bike. Rented an RT with brand new PR3's on it last week in Arizona; a thousand miles of twisties, rain, snow and Northern Canadian temperatures. I wore off all of the mold jumblies, had a ...

Dewi,
Just checking to see how the 49L top case is working. I rode an RT last week in Arizona and really like the utility of the big box over the 28L that I have. Any issues with the security of the 28L case since you've modified the luggage rack?
Thanks.

Re: Need right side case..
Harry,
Hadn't thought about the negative side of pinning the cases to their mounts. I'm thinking that replacing the pins with plastic wire ties might provide the desired security and yet shear when impacted.
Just a thought.

Re: Hold onto your air (well, air and oil) cooled boxers
For some of us, motorcycles are emotional things, as are cars and boats and airplanes and houses and, and, and. Once the practical need is met, there needs to be an emotional connection. On some level that "thing" needs to speak to us. If it doesn't, if it simply meets our need, whatever t...

Re: Tire Pressure Sensor Failure
So the other night at 11:30 on the way home from work (second shift) I get the yellow general warning and "_ _" for the back tire. Manual says signal transmission error. Check the pressure, 2.0 bar (28lbs), low but ok and check my new PR3 for a puncture, found none. Must be sensor. Tonight...

Re: Why BMW?
I've been back on bikes for 15 years. Started with a 1984 GS1150EF, promised myself a Copper '99 Hayabusa if I could find one, found one, rode it. Then restored a '74 CB750, bought a restored '79 CBX and wondered why I kind of wanted to sell them all as they were simply taking up room in the garage....

Robert, I use the Etymotics with my Zumo 550. I tried a Bluetooth receiver but only got mono out of the 550 so I'm hardwired with a quick release. It does not support the Bluetooth A2DP protocol needed for stereo. The Zumo 660 supports A2DP, don't know about the BMW Navigators. Best to check compati...

Tire Pressure Sensor Failure
I had my dealer put new PR3s on my '08 about 200km ago, the bike has 14,700km on it now and the rear tire pressure sensor has just failed. It's been a bit slow to report in for awhile; coincidence or ham fisted tech? Does anyone have experience with sensor failures and timing thereof?

Re: Foot position on pegs
I've ridden on the balls of my feet since I got back into riding 15 years ago. It feels much more natural than riding flat-footed and I find it way easier to maintain a line through the corners that way; a little preasure on inside peg to tighten and a little on the outside to widen. I use my knees ...

Re: Busted
And now for a little reverse busted! Last year I got a $94 speed on green ticket from an "intersection safety camera" while driving the Bride's Z4. Two days ago she got a $94 cheque in the mail from the government. Turns out that some of the cameras were not exactly reliable. One camera ca...
