Re: new guy with a top box question

I have a 2008 R1200R and I'm going to buy the Givi V46 top case.
I wonder what adapter plate I need to order to be able to attach the Givi V46 top case to my BMW rack.
Will the adaptor plate bolt over the BMW rack after I remove the silver cover that fits over the BMW rack?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Gauges don't respond when ignition is tuned on.

I had the same problem with my gauges not going on when I turned on the ignition key - It sometimes took a minute with the key in the on position before the gauges responded and I could start the bike. The most troubling think is when going 70 on the freeway the engine would stop running and the ins...

Re: Bad - Ignition Switch? Anntena?

Don - WOW - I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your post. I measured the voltage by using a multi-meter and touching the positive and negative terminals with the probes from the meter. I'm getting 12.48 volts with the ignition turned off which sounds like a reasonable value. I have...

Re: Bad - Ignition Switch? Anntena?

I'm also having the problem with a blank screen and about 10 - 15 seconds before the screen turns on and the bike will start. What is most disturbing is that the screen will go blank while I'm riding - sometimes going 60 MPH. It happened at night and the headlight went off as well as the computer di...

Re: Which external torx sizes?

I'm confused - I have a R1200R and I have been using the "T" torx sockets to tune up by bike.
Should I be switching to the "E" torx sockets instead?

Re: Castrol Oil 20w-50

The Castrol "4T" is Castrol Actevo - X-TRA 4T part synthetic motorcycle oil - SAE 20W-50 and it exceeds API SG + JASO MA2 standards.
I buy it at Cycle Gear for $5 a quart - much cheaper than at the BMW dealer.

Re: What does message "09:2011" appears in computer display

I checked with the dealer and he verified that it is when my next service is due.
I do my own service and I never noticed the message before.

Thanks for the help.

What does message "09:2011" appears in computer display mean

I just installed a new Westco battery and when I turn on the ignition key the computer display goes thru its normal cycling and it displays a message "09:2011" and then displays the current odometer reading. Does anyone know what the message "09:2011" means?

Thanks for any help.

Spark plug cap removal

I used the Marc Parnes spark plug cap removal tool and the spark plug caps
were on so tight that the ledge the removal tool uses to grasp the cap broke
off. Has this happened to anyone else and how did they remove the spark plug
cap when the ledge is gone?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: How much vibration ?

I installed the Throttlemeister throttle lock model FH & FB14-H which have heavier bar end weights which helps reduce the handlebar vibrations.
It is well worth the money.

The 9 o'clock rear drive drain plug was only on the 2007 model - my 2008 R1200R has the drain plug on the bottom.

Re: naked vs windscreen: 2 different bikes

I have the "tall" BMW windshield and am very happy with it. It keeps most of the wind off my chest at freeway speeds but allows enough wind to reduce the pressure on my shoulders and wrists. It is not as noisy as a full windshield and it allows me to see over it with ease. It looks good an...

Re: Air Hawk or similar

I have the Air Hawk model Cruiser Medium on my 2008 R1200R and it really helps if I ride for more than an hour at a time. It retails for $190 but you can get it cheaper on the Internet. It has air filled chambers that you inflate just a little to get a very comfortable ride. I have had mine for a ye...

Re: About this latest brake recall....

I brought my 2008 R1200R to my local dealer for the 12,000 miles last week and asked him to check if my bike was part of the front brake line recall. When I picked up the bike he said my VIN was not effected by the recall. Thinking that all 2008 R1200R bikes were part of the recall I called BMW dire...

Re: Tank Bag of Choice

I rode up to RKA in Windsor, CA and bought the 16 liter bag. They installed it on my bike - real ease with the R1200R and it looks good on my bike - not to big but big enough to fit my Apple 13" Macbook computer when it is expanded. It has separate zippered compartment for calc + maps + pens. I...

Re: Beautiful Blue 2010 R1200R

I bought a 2008 R1200R on eBay last month and it has the BMW Tall windshield. I'm 5'8" with a 29" inseam and I'm very pleased with the shield. At highway speeds I feel the air helping take pressure off my wrists but not enough pressure that I have to hang on to the handle bars real tight. ...
