I have an oval carbon BOSS exhaust on my Rockster

Sounds good, deep tone, nice rasp when accelerating, the carbon really looks good on the Rock 8)

I had a similar disc lock with alarm, not the Abus, and had to return it to the shop after a week. The problem is they have a motion detector that shines a light onto the disc surface and can detect when the disc moves. If you have to move the lock body even slightly to get the key in the lock, the ...

Low to mid 30s :(

Don't the USA bikes have a higher top gear than us ? Lower revs at speed would certainly help.

Why does it take several hours to change the battery?? tank off is a 5 minute job and then the battery is right there - what else needs to come off?? 5 Minutes !! Now that I've done the job once, it will be easier next time. My main problem was I have to park with the right hand cylinder up...

If I hold my orange eyebrow fairing next to the oil cooler covers the difference in colour is quite startling. :o But on the bike and away from each other they look identical. If you find a close match and spray the entire piece you won't notice a difference, but use it to touch up a chip and it wil...

Mike, The battery on my 03 Rockster lasted almost exactly 4 years. Replacing it is not too difficult but harder than it should be. Took me about 3 hours in total over two evenings. One to take it apart and one to put it together again. The (non gel) battery cost me about £60 from an independent B...

Well I finally got around to changing the clutch fluid tonight. In the end I did as Al mentioned above and removed the ball valve completely and screwed the bleed nipple directly into the connector on the end of the hose. Undid the nipple a quarter turn and pumped four resevoir fulls of fluid throug...

Bleedin' clutch

I have 2 spare 10mm x 1.0 bleed nipples in my garage. One of them has a pointed end (the end that screws into the caliper/bleed valve) and the other does not have the point but has a small dimple in the end as so is shorter. I took out the grub screw in the clutch bleed valve and can see the ball be...

Should have pointed out I am in the UK  Still can't believe they would not sell me the part. I don't even think of it as a specialised BMW tool, it's just a basic service item. As Deano said, I will never darken their doorway again. The local independent is good, but they only hold tools for t...

Home servicing

Went to my not-so-local dealer the other day (160 mile round trip, but the weather was good and the roads twisty) to have a look at the new models. While I was there I asked at the parts desk for the gizmo that fits over the oil filter so that you can undo it and was told BMW won't allow them to sel...

You need to press really hard with a ball point pen, and push the button in further than you would think, ignition does not need to be on.

Before I bought my Tigerstripe Rock I had a Ducati M900 monster. I test rode an 03 XB12R and it was good fun but it made my M900 feel and sound silky smooth on the way home. The next week I test rode the Rockster, the M900 felt and sounded like a bag of nails on the way home. Also the XB12 had 1500?...

Popping and backfiring are caused by air leaks. Use silicon sealer, bathroom or window when assembling, it dries clear and can't be seen. Mine has never popped or backfired. 8) Didn't really notice any performance gain with the y-piece and standard silencer, but it does sound a lot better, more of a...

Lots of people on here have removed the can completely and they say there is no performance downside. Now I understand that with a y-piece I need some back pressure so a can must be fitted. Some time ago I read an article about exhaust cans and the only real model specific differences seemed to be t...

Exhaust cans

Is there any reason why I could not fit a carbon exhaust can from another bike on my Rockster ? Obviously it will need to have the same size opening as the outside diameter of the y-piece, and a bracket may need to be made to fit it to the frame mount. Are the internals different for each bike model...

I have also fitted a trimm screen. With a bit of playing around you can get it to line up pretty well with the curve of the eyebrow. JF, you need to slide your screen down the two brackets on the headlight support and it will close up the gap. It looks good when it is lowered and follows the curve o...

Huggers

Anyone know if the Pyramid plastics hugger for the R1150R will fit on the Rockster?
Only asking because the Rockster uses a wider rear wheel/tyre. Anyone on here with one fitted?
