Re: Removed the rear muffler, LOVE the sound!

I went to my local Pep Boys and got a 1¾" galvanized steel exhaust tailpipe, about 12" long. Basically, it's a standard car exhaust tip with a beveled turn-down end. And it's made of heavy-gauge steel. Turns out it fits on tightly and the clamp can hold it down without and slits cut into ...

Re: Prices

I disagree with the 2 way street thing. Sounds nice and cosy, but in reality, its mostly a one way street. Business is business and your dealer may be friendly but he's really interested in one thing - your money, so don't get too carried away with the loyalty thing. Nothing wrong, however, with &q...

Re: 2004 vs 2005/2006 R1150R

Pyrate - rest assured that you would be happy with either 6-gear combination. Only difference is the 6th OD tranny doesn't like cruising in 6th at really below 70mph so you would end up higher revs in 5th until you get above 70 then would shift to 6th. Which works out just marvelously as this bike ...

Re: 2004 vs 2005/2006 R1150R

I agree with the overdrive being present in year 2004 and being selectable afterwards. I also agree that on sixth gear 80 mph equates to 4k rpms, and 60mph to 3k rpms and so on on my bike which is a 2004 with overdrive. I also can advise that if you plan to do interstate long runs overdrive is a mu...

Re: 2004 vs 2005/2006 R1150R

Pyrate - I don't think you will find any differences between the expressed years. I do not think that there were any significant (if any at all) changes between 2004/2005. My guess is that during 2003 and 2004, BMW was offering really fantastic financing (financing was a big factor in my original p...

Re: 2004 vs 2005/2006 R1150R

Did BMW drop the power ABS in 2005 or did it stay on until the R1200? I bought my '04 R1150R specifically because I wanted ABS, but the power assisted ABS on my bike is overly sensitive and grabby. BMW saw the light and quietly reverted to a non power assisted system on later models. After 96k mile...

Re: R1200R PHOT0 GALLERY

Greetings, all - new member here. Have owned more BMs than I can probably remember (everything from R80s through Ks to oilheads, most recently GSs) and now landed with a 1200R. 2009 model, originally the local dealer's demo bike so fully loaded with every conceivable option, most of which I wouldn'...

Re: Prices

The big thing I have found is being willing to walk away. If you aren't, you will pay their price. I put a phone deposit by credit card to hold a bike the dealer had just received til I could get there later the next day. When I arrived and started dealing they were unwilling to drop the price more ...

Re: Removed the rear muffler, LOVE the sound!

Has anyone from California removed the muffler? Any issues w/ LEO? The reason I ask is I have been checked when riding MTN roads (even paved) for spark arrestors.

Also, have dealers / repair facilities given anyone a hard time about not having the muffler on the bike?

Thanks!

Re: 2004 vs 2005/2006 R1150R

Aside from some new colors in 2005/06, the only thing I remember is the optional overdrive 6th gear in 2005/06 that came standard on the 2004. (and the price hike from $9990 in 2004 to $10,500 MSRP after that) The 05/06's have 2 possible 6th gear ratios. The overdrive gear was extra. Thanks. I will...

2004 vs 2005/2006 R1150R

Hello All, I'm new here but been riding for 30 years. :smt006 I currently ride a 2003 BMW F650GS Dakar. I go back and forth between road bikes and dirt/dual sports and have been looking at used R1150R for my next road bike. I have noticed a great deal of 2004 and older models for sale but very few 2...
