Re: A Great Ride While it Lasted
So glad to hear that YOU are undamaged, but as a friend just responded to an email about my recent get-off: "More importantly, how is your bike?" :) That picture of the cylinder head makes me think engine guards are a really good idea, though, as I've already posted, the Hepco & Becker...

Re: Took a test ride today WOW!!!
Some practical advice: First, wait until about 3 a.m. Then, borrow a friends vehicle with gobs of extra torque, something like this: http://tinyurl.com/27kcgqm Hook up several lengths of heavy chain to an ATM and slowly ease it away from its temporary berth at a bank. (Smashing any observing TV came...

Re: Crash Bar Report
I crash tested the Motoport Kevlar. It works really well ! No road rash at all, and mitigated the rest of the damage to some cracked ribs. Doc said the chest armor prevented shattered ribs or worse . All my other gear feels like I am naked in comparison. =D> Good to hear on the Motoport. Now I don'...

Re: Crash Bar Report
Glad you are OK!!! Glad the suit worked. One reason I went ahead a few months back and got the Motoport Kevlar suit. As far as I am concerned, the more you mitigate the odds, the better. I also have the SW Mototech guards and really like them. Keep us posted on the how things progress. Best wishes....

Crash Bar Report
After a car in the lane next to me whipped an illegal left turn, my front wheel kissed the car, didn't like the taste and spit me out to the asphalt. Other than my ego and wallet, nothing was broken. After 40 years of riding, my moto/car collision virginity was lost. I was very impressed with the ca...

Re: F800ST vs R1200R
Thanks for the thoughtful and thorough rundown on the two bikes. Interestingly, my experience with an F800ST led to a different conclusion. After riding one on a Rob Beach motorcycle tour of the Alps, thinking it might be my next bike for riding on the job in San Francisco, and after 2000 miles and ...

Re: A softer clutch?
Somewhere I read about an autoshifter that uses buttons on the left grip to momentarily kill the engine while a solenoid(?) moves the shifter, bypassing the need for a clutch. But of course, only riders without balls would want such a thing. Oh yeah, and racers.

Re: Clunk!
Yeah, listen up all you mutha's! I drive everyday on the job in San Francisco with lots of pedestrians. The R12R exhaust is sewing-machine quiet. If it weren't for the clunk, nobody would know I was about to make that right turn and mow them down! And to R12gecko (OP): I used to think 2nd was too ta...

Re: Soar shoulders
I'm in total agreement about riding some more. If your shoulders hurt after a short ride I'd be willing to bet it's all about the excess tension you created there while on an unfamiliar bike. After a 700 mile ride the first day I owned the bike (flew to buy it used and rode it back home), I was SURE...

Re: Steering dampener-ectomy
Be interested in exactly who you bought it from, and who you're talking to if it's EPM-Performance. Ah, therein may lie the problem. I simply googled "HyperPro Steering Damper" and saw the the first 2 hits were http://www.hyperprousa.com. This sounded like the place one should go to buy a...

Re: Steering dampener-ectomy
I've given thought to getting a HyperPro adjustable one (I know it fits since Klaus used my bike to design the thing..) Well rats! I tried to install the Hyperpro steering damper and it doesn't freakin' fit! First, they sent me a mounting kit for the GS even though my order and the invoice clearly ...

Re: Lets talk tyres
Actually, Harry, I'd expect the Valkyrie to get better mileage. More weight keeps the rear from slipping under acceleration which, according to one manufacturer's website, is the main reason light, powerful motorcycles go through rear tires so fast. Of course, you might get some slippage when the ti...

Re: 2011 r1200r
Slightly related to the above discussion: I was in my local BMW dealership this week and perused the BMW Motorad magazine that had an article by the head of boxer development who opined that the power/emission equation had pretty much reached its limit for an air cooled boxer and there was a photo o...

Re: exhaust system
Hey Mike T - I also like my bike to be heard in crazed traffic. When I was running with just an exhaust tip (no muffler) on the OEM header and cat can, I had backfiring much more than with the ZTechnik setup. My local BMW shop told me that the blatting was not going to hurt anything. I get some with...

Re: exhaust system
I remember reading somewhere (ZTechnic's site?) that this system was designed in consultation with BMW engineers. If so, there should be no fuel mapping problems. I installed mine last night and ran into three issues: 1) The design of the overall length of the system is not well thought out. I found...

Re: Weiser LED Turn Signals
They're not super bright from off-angle (typical of LEDs) but they're quite bright from typical traffic viewing angles. Weird, but to my eyes, they're just the opposite. After installing one side, I put the emergency flashers on and walked out of the garage about 50 feet to compare that side with t...

Re: exhaust system
Thanks for the post and pics, Mike. I've got one on the way. Actually, I've always thought the OEM was good enough and added Wilburs shocks first. But now my BMW chrome headers are seriously rusting in San Francisco salt air, so I might as well bite the bullet and get something with a little music, ...
