Re: Mileage Bump

I had a similar experience on a long trip; mileage went over 190 before light came on; gradually worked back down & stabilized @ around 40 mpg. I'll be cleaning or replacing that air filter right after I'm done w/ that rear brake bleeder. I just went over 41K a little while ago; CSF hasn't gotte...

Re: Rear brake caliper

Cyclerob / Phang; Thanks, I've got the two pieces as shown. I just wanted to be sure that there wasn't something unusual with what looked like (& apparently is) a high-end reducer bushing. Looks almost like something I'd put in if I messed up a threaded hole & had to go another size bigger a...

Hasn't anybody out there over-hauled one of these?

Re: Dunlop Roadsmarts, Dynabeads, brakes & vibration

Prior to doing it myself, the dealer & a local shop both said they it didn't need to change the amount or location of the weight, adding 1 data point confirming Iowabeakster's post.

Rear brake caliper

I broke the bleeder valve when I tried to use it a few weeks ago. It appears to be threaded into a spearate fitting (not the caliper casting itself). The dealer does not show this fitting on their Illustrated Parts Breakdown. Does anyone out there have experience dis-assembling this caliper or have ...

Re: Shocks

I put Wilbers on in the spring, no regrets. Big $ but the guy in California that I got them from (Ted @ Ted's Beemershop) was first rate. I noticed the best improvement on some washboard 2-lane in the Catskills. More of the same in central PA in the rain a week ago. You'll definitely be glad you got...

Re: front brake rubbing

A few weeks ago I had a similar issue. I had just installed a new set of tires & when I re-assembled it there was detectable drag. The test ride resulted in shuddering like there was a bent rotor. Ultimately what solved the issue was removing the caliper, cleaning & reseating the pistons and...

Re: Dunlop Roadsmarts, Dynabeads, brakes & vibration

Update: - Adjusted valves - Sync'd TB's - Mounted both tires w/ mark (dot, circle etc.) @ valve stem Result: Zen Motorcycling is back. Euphoric..... & I can even see clearly in my mirrors (better than ever before) Beemeridian; thanks for the advice on tire installs, I appreciate the input. For t...

Re: GPS mount on a R1150R

I mounted my Quest above & to the right of the clock; I just barely have to glance down to see it.
I like it there much better than the handlebar mount that required more of downward look; not much of a difference dimensionally but it makes a big difference in convenience.

Re: Let's make a list of big $ repairs

I'm over 42K w/ my '02; it had 9.6K on it in Aug '06 when I bought it. My big expenses to date have been shocks, tires & dealer maintenance. I do my own routine maintenance now (no clutch spline or FD teardown/inspection/re-assy) and just figured out how to mount my own tires last year. From wha...

Re: Dunlop Roadsmarts, Dynabeads, brakes & vibration

Did about 300 miles in a steady, light rain on Friday; seemed pretty secure in the rain but the vibration @ 70+ kept me off the 4-lanes. Sunday the rain was only for the first 150 miles but at times it was a heavy downpour; never felt unstable or slippery as long as I was going at a pace appropriate...

Dunlop Roadsmarts, Dynabeads, brakes & vibration ? 120 MPH ?

I finished putting a set of Roadsmarts on last night and had a couple of issues; 1. This is only the 2nd full set of tires I've installed myself; first pair was Conti Road Attacks; used Dynabeads w/ no problem, other than getting them in. 2. Installed the Roadsmarts same as Conti's but made a mistak...

Re: How do you equip your 1150R for touring two-up?

MLW & I have done several trips w/ 300+ mile days for 5-7 days at a time. I'm 6'2" 260#, she's about 5'4" and less than #150. I have a marginal fairing / screen (Fallert), stock seat, system cases, home-brew tail rack, GPS and recently added new aftermarket shocks. On several trips we'...

Re: Let's make a list of big $ repairs

Replacement shocks @ 34K miles were around $1400.
I'm currently @ 40K and don't regret getting them.
If something too big comes up it will be time for something else.

Hey BubbaC; I hope all is going OK.
I picked up some of the spiral wrap @ Walmart for some other projects, worked fine.
Enjoy the ride.

Re: Tires!!

Ever try Conti Road Attacks?

I've got some chicken strip left on mine; but I suspect a more skilled rider could get rid of them quickly.
I also suspect that good shocks might offer a little more 'grip' sensation with any tire.

Re: Airhead advice

Challey; When MLW suggested a few years ago that we should get a bike, I suggested that maybe we should start w/ something simple & inexpensive (a euphemism for '..old & cheap but needs work..') she countered with the statement "I want to ride, and how much time do you have to renovate/...
