Re: Maximum Exposure: Rigging a Motorcycle with FilmTools
EXCELLENT subject! Your production continues to improve. I'm gonna be saying "I knew him when..." pretty soon I think. I have ordered a 2C clamp and a 484 head. Hey, thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. Yeah, I'm feeling "almost famous!" A viewer suggested that the 2C clamp...

Maximum Exposure: Rigging a Motorcycle with FilmTools
I just posted the piece we did about rigging motorcycles for on-board video recording with special guest, Stan McClain. Stan has been a director of photography, mostly working in aerial cinemetography units, and he has worked on over 50 motion pictures. He's got a real knack for rigging vehicles wit...

Weekend Ride, R1200R Perspective
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3549/3648309121_bbd4145f99_m.jpg We took a long ride this past weekend, leaving from Seattle in pouring rain and arriving in Ashland Oregon to 90-something dry degrees -- 466 miles that day. Saturday and Sunday were both ~230-mile days, taking us along the following r...

Re: Thinking of another R - barback question
On MotoTechniques website - they show two different ones.. It appears people are using the 1.25" setback ones on the R1200R - can I assume all the hoses/wires reach with that one? http://www.moto-techniques.com/bmw.htm ?? I've got the same question, even though I just installed a set after rea...

Re: Flip Ultra HD Motorcycle Mount Test - R1200GS
I was impressed by the HV30. If the HF20 is as good, I might pick up one myself. It's only $799 at Newegg, and they often have a 0% financing deal with no payments for 6 months (sometimes 12 months if the item costs more than $1K).Dan-A wrote: I am thinking about the Canon HF20 (when the pocket book allows)

Re: Flip Ultra HD Motorcycle Mount Test - R1200GS
I guess in your experience the suction cups hold even given vibration and wind, or you wouldn't recmmend them, but still... Can you trust them with an expensive camera? The key is to use several suction cups (triangulation), which has more to do with vibration stabilization than it does with redund...

Flip Ultra HD Motorcycle Mount Test - R1200GS
GirlWonder and I flew to Burbank last weekend to do a couple of shows that involved BMWs. Our second shoot was with cinematographer Stan McClain . Stan showed us how to mount cameras and shoot motorcycle footage "on the cheap." We mounted a Flip Ultra HD camera to a BMW R1200GS, using a Ca...

Vintage Trials Webisode on Peckhammer TV
If you've got an interest in vintage trials, you may be interested in the latest webisode of Peckhammer TV. We interviewed Derek Belvoir, who's been riding trials for almost six decades. There is also a cameo appearance by the legendary John DeSoto. Lots of beautiful vintage bikes to see, too. Here'...

Touratech
I could have swore I posted something about this yesterday, but alas... it appears that I didn't. If I did, I apologize for the duplication. Girl Wonder interviewed Jeremy LeBreton, of Touratech USA, for one of our Peckhammer TV webisodes. Jeremy is a hardcore adventure rider and he explains how and...

Well, you had a last ride of 2008, and I have a last video from 2008. I just finished editing it tonight. It's about a guy who rides a 1938 BMW on the motocross course at Los Angeles County Raceway for "A Day in the Dirt." If you're interested, check it out here: http://peckhammer.blogspot...

International Motorcycle Show
I was at the IMS in Seattle, on Friday and Saturday. No BMW. Apparently they are only present at four of the shows this year. If anyone knows why, I'd love to hear it. We shot a quick and dirty interview of Robert Pandya, who is a true blue motorcycle enthusiast, and a great spokesperson for the sho...

Re: This Week's $64K Question
It could be the sudden death battery syndrome, but you did say that the starting has become gradually more difficult. I have to wonder if it isn't a case of the alternator not producing enough power to keep up with the additional load of the lights ??? I'd try to put a charger on it between rides a...

This Week's $64K Question
I am in the process of shooting a video about installing Hyperlites on the R1200R. I like the product, and I like the idea, but my experience so far has sucked. Most of this is not hyperlite's fault. The Hyperlites instructions are generic, and incorrect. On top of that, the instructions are just pl...

Re: Foreign Body
Good question. No, the pan was perfectly clean when I started. Guess I'll take it to the dealer and ask. Really looks like a silicon gasket for something. Pretty small thing, whatever it is.TAG-Caver wrote:Where do you store the drain pan? Is there a chance it was already in the pan B4 the oil change?

Foreign Body
I found this in the pan after draining the oil today:
The rubbery looking thing on the left, not the dime. Kind of gasket looking -- or maybe like the latex ring on a hamster condom. Any ideas?

The BMW R75/5 Bonneville Racer
Girl wonder and I recently returned from Bonneville Speedway, where we interviewed a number of fine people racing during Speedweek. One of these interviews may be of particular interest to the parallel-twin-loving-bunch that bought their R1200Rs because it captured a bit of the past. Randy Smith is ...
