I can't measure my plug gap with feeler gauges.
The gaps are curved and are not effectively adjustable.
Looking up plug equivalents reveals that the oem NGK I use are not equivalent to the other plugs quoted above. Maybe European fuel does have different ignition and combustion requirements?

Re: Spark Plug Gap
My service record shows I have changed my plugs approximately every 6000 miles (3 years or so, yes I'm a low mileage fair weather rider). Getting the plugs out and cleaning the head casting of grit, bitumen and flies is such a faff that I put in new plugs each time. £16 for two plugs seems a bit exp...

Re: Spark Plug Gap
Is there a list of suitable spark plugs for our bike?
That 3 electrode Bosch FR5DTC is cheaper than the standard 2 electrode NGK, in the UK anyway.

Re: Spark Plug Gap
I apologise . The NGK BKR7EKC are indeed specified at a gap of 0.03" and 0.8mm in my paper owners manual. Maybe because it is a multigap type plug? I don't know the design of the plugs mentioned in your first message.

Re: Spark Plug Gap
The 0.031" (which manual?) is surely wrong. 20-25 thou is the norm. The NGK BKR7EKC I use have multiple non adjustable gaps and are correct out of the box for my single plug per cylinder model.

Re: Oil Change Thoughts
Just why is that hole so small? I don't recall having such a pita servicing my K75 or R80/7. My leaky old Triumph T90 had a filler about 2" in diameter.

Re: Improving 2004 R1150R: AF-XIED vs ReCyclizer, +1200 injectors
"Double spark was invented by BMW for fixing engine design flaws including surging, which my bike is prone to on low speeds (1st / 2nd gears)" Quoted from Kirya. When I bought my single sparker from a trusted UK dealer Rainbow Motorcycles, they mentioned the surging issue and said it did n...

Summer weather has suddenly kicked in this week, 22C forecast , was out on the BMW yesterday and going out on my bicycle today. Weather was grim at Easter this year.Rain, sleet and wet snow.

Re: Oil Change Thoughts
Nothing like experience for oils. I am aware of the reported seal issues and as a result have stuck with the semi synth for the bevel box. Can you get the engine oil into the engine at a reasonable pace? Its very stop start for me as the funnel backs up and my back aches holding the funnel. I've tri...

Just done mine. 3.75l in after draining a hot engine. Ran at idle until the chain tensioner quietened then revved a bit and shut off. Sitting smack in the middle of the window a couple of hours later. As Kirby says, measure the correct quantity out as the starting point. Some topping up may be neede...

Oil Change Thoughts
So, just done an oil change after my winter hibernation. It's in the teens Celsius today and warm enough for a 60 mile return trip into the Pennines (without hand warmers) to get my annual MOT ( a compulsory annual vehicle check). Dropped the hot engine oil when I got home and let it trickle out ove...

Re: How do you handle stopping on an uphill slope?
With the powered brakes it's easy to hold the bike stationary on a hill, in neutral, on the front brake. And my hand does get tired holding the clutch lever for more than a few seconds. I've rarely stalled doing hill starts and it doesn't seem onerous to engage gear and let the clutch in while letti...

That's teens Fahrenheit? Gulp, my bike doesn't come out of winter hibernation until it reaches into the teens Celsius.

Thanks for the reply to my vague hint. I'll look out for that hose if I need too. Yes, I did mean a breather into the back of the airbox.

Re: Mounting System topcase on an R1150R
If you mean exactly OEM , then yes. Just a matter of finding the stuff new or more likely, pre-owned.
If you want to adapt a non OEM top box to fit, then searching the forum is your friend. I recall plastic chopping boards being the mounting of choice in the past.

Re: Oil filler cap
If the oil is actually 'blowing' out that is maybe more than a leaky filler cap. Check the oil breather which goes into the air filter box is venting freely and the engine crank case is not pressurizing. No, I don't know exactly where it exits from the engine. The cap on my 2002 is OK so far,...

Hey, that's my favourite BMW picture! Identical colour scheme for my bike and me! As an OAP that's my ambition to corner like that . Flip flopping like those little Japanese riders is not feasible as a fragile senior.

I felt like throwing up after a couple of minutes viewing. Just circus tricks, even trials riders aren't this aggressive. The tyres must be super grippy as well.

Around 47mpg. That's UK gallons so just over 39 US mpg.
