Re: HID?

Sounds like it could be a good solution without the compromises, then. Let me know if you go with the HID conversion either way, I love mods that are subtle and "trick". :D

Re: HID?

Another point that's given me some hesitation is that where it's a real projector and not just a bulb scattering light, there's a definite horizon cut-off when the lamp is illuminated. This could cause problems when leaned over as there will be a dark spot right where you're trying to look through a...

Re: HID?

I inquired at TRS recently on the same note (1100R and 1150R have the same headlight, I think). For a full retrofit, there's some modifications needed in the headlight bucket, an enlarging of the hole. This is for a proper shrouded projector bi-xenon setup. Friendly folks, to be sure and the price s...

Re: rear wheel

Yes! The first time I removed and reinstalled the rear wheel when replacing the rear shock I had a near miss. Bike felt weird and when I pulled over and put it on the centerstand, I had 3-4 cm play. Could have turned out worse, to be sure. Thank goodness for a decent stock toolkit onboard. The servi...

Re: Brake fluid

It's supposed to be flushed every season, so I think "cheap and meets spec" is the answer.

Cheapest 80W90 that meets GL5 spec. Final Drive Fluid replace every 12K miles, remove drain plug (19mm socket), remove filler plug (6mm hex), remove metal filings from drain plug by squirting with carb cleaner, install drain plug with new crush washer, torque to 17 ft.lb (23 Nm), fill with 230cc of ...

Re: Tire Size

Only issue I can see is the clearance between the tire and the swingarm. Feels like there's about a finger's depth there now with a stock 150. :| Anyone made the swap on an 1100R? I know I could swap to a 5.5" rear wheel (eg: K1200RS) with no problem, but is the offset between the two wheels id...

The 1100 uses a 5" rim also, correct? Can I go 170 on my 1100?

Re: Mounting Bar End Mirrors on an R

I added the JumboDepot bar ends to my 11R over the summer. I've had no problems with visible vibration but have had to snug both sides up once over the last thousand KM. Some removable Loctite would solve this issue pretty quick. I have mine flipped in and haven't had them move to 180 KM/h. Cleans u...

No promises (and I wish I had a wingman to come that far), but it could happen.

What's the itinerary?

Re: Oil weep

Replaced both head gaskets, pretty obvious where the leak was coming from when it was all apart. The old style gasket had delaminated in the cam gallery on the backside, drivers left cylinder. Did both to be sure, and the right side was starting to show the same problem, just not as far advanced. Re...

Re: Brake light stays on

Best guess would be a fluid flush, worst case a MC rebuild in your future. How are you with fluid changes?

A lot of times the fluid return won't drain completely when you release the brake lever due to gunk inside the MC.

Re: Oil weep

Head, valve and spark gaskets inbound, along with a billet locking oil fill cap. Wasn't the oil switch, and I might as well freshen it up. 150,000 Km, after all.

Belt & braces, etc.

Ay feedback on the LSR exhaust from RB Racing? They do intake and exhaust packages, looks like the GS version will fit right where the stocker does. http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/blackhole/bmwr1100exhausts.html http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/turbo/bmwr1150gs_01.jpg http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/turbo/bmwr1...

Oil weep

My R has 145,000 Km on it and runs like a top, doesn't burn oil and generally complies with whatever I ask it to do. I have noticed than when I'm out for a good long run and really seriously caning it that I'll get a mist of oil on my left riding boot. The bottom left side of the engine has a coat o...
