Re: YA (yet another!) Shock Thread
Hey Caol, how many miles/km's on your R?? The wee beast has about 67,000km (41,600mi) on it. And being I'm well above the "average" weight for a rider the suspension has had a pretty good workout over the last 5 seasons! And I'm hoping to add another 20,000+km this year alone. Klaus will ...

YA (yet another!) Shock Thread
Situation: 2007 R1200R w/ESA requires replacement shocks. :( Have talked with the folks at Works Performance, and while they do build replacement struts for the ESA units on RT's and GS's they don't have anything specific for the R. Is there anybody else out there, HyperPro (RT and GS listed), Wilbe...

Re: Fuseblock Instalation
I had a Centech AP-1 installed on my '07, early on, to service driving lights and Stebel Nautilus etc. Nice and tidy.

Re: Adjusting Ride Firmness
'07 w/ESA I'm in the 280-310 zone (Beemer's the only bike with a big enough payload!  ) and keep the pre-load in the "rider with luggage" mode. Then I flip between the damping around to suit the ride. The only time I've, normally, used the "two-up" position, is with a ...

Re: My system case is hard to open
Hi David, One thing I've noticed about the system cases, is that if there is anything thicker than a piece of paper caught in the perimeter seal of a case it causes the key/pushbutton effort to go up very quickly. Just a corner of your rain gear, or something small caught in the seal in the bottom w...

Very interesting, and flipping between the K75 and R12R seems to be about what I experienced!
Thanks!

Re: Why BMW?
Hmm.... Now that I think about it, my first highway machine was a 10 year old R75/5 ('73) that I got in 1983, it had a Vetter Windjammer III (w/lowers) on it and I added the BMW side cases. Rode that until the spring of 1989 when I picked up a 1987 (but new) K75T with screen/bags. Was looking for a ...

Gloves, Gauntlets and Athlete's Feet of the Hands!
Just a word of caution to my fellow riders! I did not store my heavy (cold weather) gauntlets properly last winter. They were, of course, the last gloves I wore riding as the weather got cooler prior to putting up the bike for the winter. This spring, again the weather was cool so the heavy gauntlet...

Went from the high standard to the high comfort just before a big trip last year. I like the high comfort saddle!

Re: The Different Routes to Alaska
Yup, Hwy-93 goes right up the spine of the Rockies, so the roads are not the quickest. 93 is in pretty good shape, but if you head north further west, (Idaho/Spokane WA) they're not bad but there are fewer places to pass logging trucks and the like. Once you're in BC there aren't many options to hea...

Re: First Long Trip
I did, however, learn than the ZFE is not bright enough to save the rider if he leaves the ignition on (motor off) during a protracted lunch stop. With both H11s burning (it has a Kisan PathBlazer), the battery went completely flat. Don't ask me how I know this. A jump and an hour's ride and things...

Re: Michelin Pilot Road 3
A quick question Mike: The PR3's you're on now, are they the "standard" or "GT" version? <edit> Whoops! That's the Bridgestone Battleax BT-023's that come in "standard" or "GT" variants! However, the Michelin site shows a 'B' model rear tire, in our size, for ...

I had pretty good luck with the original battery in my '07, but I drained it a couple of times  and, in the middle of the 4th season it was getting noticeably slower in turning over. So, before I headed out on the transcontinental trip last summer my tech dropped in a Yausa YTX14-BS, sealed, b...

I don't use a hook/loop either, with the R12R, however, the saddle bags will swallow a full face helmet, no problem.
