Re: Nyloc (nylon insert locking nut) for Brake Lever source?

From your question I'll assume (yes I know about assume) your unaware that the parts fiche for your bike is on the internet in a few places. I use the one from Max BMW http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=51804&rnd=03192010 . Go to steering (32)and i think your talking a...

Re: Nyloc (nylon insert locking nut) for Brake Lever source?

I've replaced both levers on the R1200R and the R1200S with passo levers and have only used what the bike has, I have never had to replace parts. If you are saying that you have to I have not had any problems then and now! Do you recall what torque value you used on those nuts? - I think the BMW se...

Nyloc (nylon insert locking nut) for Brake Lever source?

I am installing the CNC BMW Brake and Clutch levers and BMW shows a plain black oxide nut in the catalog for the pivot nut, yet the R1200R has a tall SS nylock nut. The BMW dealer supplied a generic SS 5MM nut with a nyloc insert, but its a lot shorter than the one on the bike. Since its such a crit...

Re: overdrive

Put simply (my exhaustive explanation is in your other thread), "overdrive" means that a part in the transmission is turning faster than the engine - in the R1200R, this happens in 5th and 6th gear. It has nothing to do with how the gears are spaced (evenly or a super tall 6th) and is real...

Re: dangerous test ride

Really tall seat I keep hearing people say this, but I have a 32" inseam and was able to flat-foot the bike. You are lucky - I think a 32" inseam gives you a much wider range of bikes to feel comfortable on than the sub-30" people (I am 29"). I had the local dealer put the "...

Re: Wudo Streamline Windshield w/adjustable bracket installed

I don't read German and found/ordered from Wudo just fine using any search engine  I find that a nice ride cures the tendency to become annoyed easily.... To save anyone else the trouble of trying to find that windshield online (unless you read German, it is easy to find) I will post links bel...

Wudo Streamline Windshield w/adjustable bracket installed

After ordering 2 months ago from Germany, my Wudo Streamline Windshield w/adjustable bracket arrived. I like the bracket mounting method (uses stock fork threaded holes) and its adjustable to allow for a nice angled rake. Its a 2 pc setup that articulates the top shield to account for the tall and f...

Re: Pipes--Polish Them or Let Them Color?

When I first got my bike, I polished my stainless pipes until it looked like it came from the crate, then applied alcohol to remove any residue that might speed-up the discoloration process when added to heat. They turned to a golden mirror finish instead of the original dull ruddy copper look right...

Re: is 6th gear overdrive on my r1200r?

"Overdrive" to me would mean the output shaft of the transmission is turning slower then the transmission input shaft. Such is the case on our bikes - in both 5th and 6th: http://www.wolfbmw.com/R1200R.html "Gear ratios I 2.28; II 1.58; III 1.26; IV 1.03; V 0.90; VI 0.80" - mean...

Re: Is This a Comfort Seat?

The "short block" design is identical for the In-head and OHC motors and this determines the torque characteristics for the most part (with the heads determining the hp and top-end if cammed for it). BMW did not cam the OHC to increase hp on the 2010 versions (RT/GS) of the OHC, leaving th...

Greg Petty was a racing legend - the accident is easy to Google, a bit harder was the other person. Here is a link to information on the rider that collided with Greg Petty by crossing the line: http://adelaidescuba.blogspot.com/2010/01/ausc-mostyn-walker-rip.html Looking at the comments, it seemed ...

Re: R12R VS F650GS: which engine is smoother?

In fact i just rented a K1300GT for a little tour a month ago, and while the engine obviously seemed smoother (inline 4 vs boxer 2) after an hour or so the 4 cylinder "smooth vibrations" were making me wish for my R1200R... Liked that acceleration and winsdscreen though! 4 cyl vibrations ...

Re: Got LOW Comfort seat..

Just a reminder in case anyone is not aware - the rear rubber pads (mounted on the R1200R's frame) are height adjustable by turning. I found that these needed adjustment to get the right preload of the rear hook release. I actually make it tight enough so that some light downward pressure on the pil...

Re: Contaminated front brake fluid

On May 2, I checked my fluid and it was crystal clear - today it looks like the OP's fluid (moldy) - just 55 days later! How can fluid change in 55 days and 1500 miles like that? (total mileage on my 2010 R1200R is 3050 now) As was noted - it appears to be a very fine particle that easily goes into...

Re: f800gs mirrors on the cheap

We would at least need to install our old round mirrors on their F800GS's ;) Does anyone know of an F800GS discussion board? We could join the board and promote a group dual-sport ride beginning with breakfast. While they are in the restaurant eating breakfast, we can lift all their mirrors and the ...
