Re: Toot...toot.
PeterNuss said I can not fathom how a horn can save you several times. I don't know where you ride, and you don't know where I ride. I use the horn to protect myself from threats I can see developing in the immediate future. In my experience a loud horn helps alert people to my presence when it's ob...

Re: Toot...toot.
139dB* sounds like something BIG coming! When a cellphoning cager on the interstate wandered halfway into my passing lane and I pushed the button, he must've thought a truck was coming because he jerked the wheel over so hard that his car started fishtailing as he overcorrected at 70mph! As I blew b...

Re: Toot...toot.
I installed a Stebel Nautilus Compact mini-airhorn under the tank where the ABS unit would be if I had one and it is 139dB LOUD! It requires a relay to power it. I think it's small enough to mount in place of the existing horn (but it still needs a relay and thicker wires). You can see it here: http...

Re: Tire Repair Kit
I had a motorcycle shop vulcanize rubber, mushroom-shaped plugs on a few of my rear tires that held perfectly for the life of the tire (one had run only ~400 miles when it got holed). These plugs have a ~1/4" diameter stem attached to a ~1" diameter patch. The tire has to be removed to vul...

I felt the same after replacing my 12-year-old original brake hoses with Spiegler braided hoses!
It's an upgrade worth the money.

Re: Help ! Autoswitch A7 on my 1150R
The only minor issue I have with mine is that it takes about a second of holding the "Cancel" switch to turn the lights off, which seems kinda long when you're trying not to blind oncoming traffic with the Hellas...otherwise, it's great!

Re: Backfire & Stalling when at operating temperature
Check ignition wire resistances.
Check ignition coil resistances.
Try opening the fuel-filler cap when it stalls and listen for sucking air. If it does, your vent hoses may be swapped.

Re: oxygen sensor rusted into the cat
Just spray all around the exposed sensor threads and tap on the flats of the sensor's nut and the collar it's screwed into -> repeatedly. Let it sit overnight if necessary and hit it again before you try to break it loose. You can keep doing this everyday for a week if you want, spray and tap, spray...

Re: oxygen sensor rusted into the cat
They can be tough to remove...on cars I've soaked them in penetrating oil (I like the Zep brand) and tap on them with a small hammer just hard enough to work the oil into the threads. Then using a O2 socket wrench (has a long slit in it for the wire) I try to break it free while tapping. If that doe...

I think I would check for air leaks on the cylinder-head side of the throttle body, and at the vacuum nibs on its underside.

I get around 34-38 in town depending on how much of a hurry I'm in, so that is normal.
And I get between 48-50 on open highway, again depending on how much of a hurry I'm in.
Lately trending to the higher mpg's !-)

Re: 2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?
Since it was dripping onto the center stand, that leads me to believe it could have been coming from the tank discharge tubes located behind the right footpeg. (There are two, one from the filler neck recess and one from inside the tank). If gas were leaking from the quick-disconnects I think it wou...

Re: Speed Bleeder/Bottoms Up
After removing the clutch's master-cylinder reservoir top (when bleeding the clutch) does anybody else notice a faint gear-oil smell (sulphurous) in that fluid? I always have and wonder if tranny fluid is seeping past a seal in the clutch slave-cylinder and mixing back to the master cylinder.

Re: Tire Mileage
Tire wear seems to depend on several factors including rubber composition, riding style, road surface, and temperature. This was dramatically demonstrated when I moved to Mississippi from Florida and the mileages I got riding the same rear tires in each state (Bridgestone Battleax BT-023's) rose fro...

Re: Speed Bleeder/Bottoms Up
The brake fluid in the caliper gets repeatedly heated by braking action and is often contaminated with moisture that seeps past the caliper piston seals. When you bleed brake fluid through the calipers' bleeder screws into clear Tygon tubing you'll often see the darker, contaminated brake fluid that...

Re: Speed Bleeder/Bottoms Up
I wouldn't think pushing the contaminated fluid from the caliper back up into the master cylinder would be good. Before I install new pads I bleed the calipers so that dirty moist fluid does not migrate back to the sensitive parts in the master cylinders. Even then while pressing the pistons back in...

Re: Just bought a 2004 R1150R...need battery tender recommendations
Lead-acid batteries have different forms and require different chargers to get the most life out of them. "Regular" lead-acid batteries have a replenishable liquid (acid electrolyte) in them, and also include some of the maintenance-free types. Other maintenance-free types have gel electro...

Re: Denali Soundboard airhorn
I don't know about the Denali horn either, but I am happy with the Stebel compact air horn I mounted under the tank where the ABS would have been. I use it sparingly because it has startled cagers into loosing control when they thought they'd drifted into the lane of an oncoming tractor trailer! And...
