Bar Backs for 2011 R1200R?

Post by lgh »

Just sold via Craig's List my supremely comfortable and always reliable 1996 R1100R (cross-spoke) with 65,000 highway miles. Desperately in need (carpal tunnel syndrome) of one-inch-plus bar backs for new smoke grey 2011 R1200R with 122 miles coming from the dealer's. Great bike! The Moto-Techniques bar backs I had ordered beforehand do not fit and are being returned. Suburban Machinery footpeg lowering kit to be installed as soon as Craftsman Torx set arrives ... rural delivery.

I have the same bike, same color. I've looked all over and can't find anything to pull the bars back and up, crash bars, windshield options, or cylinder covers for the 2011. If you have any luck, please post.

The bars on the 2011 model are tubular, just like the 2007-2010 models. If the new bars are 7/8" diameter, like the previous bike's, any barback that'd fit the earlier model will probably fit the later one. Wunderlich, Touratech, Verholen, Moto-Techniques, and Spiegler all have them.

Cylinder covers from the r1200gs fit on the new r, it's the same engine. I have the covers on mine.

dbrick ... The handlebar on the 2011 BMW R1200R is tapered, measures 1 and 1/8 inches diameter at the clamp, less towards the grips. Separation of bolts at the clamp measures 1 and 1/2 inches center to center. Bar backs for the 2007-2010 R1200R will not fit, thus am having to return the Moto-Techniques units, hoping they will design and produce something suitable in the near future. Have not yet checked with the other producers; waiting to hear what Moto-Tech comes up with.

street bob 59 ... Parabellum Scout fairing is now available for the 2011 BMW R1200R, with a selection of heights in windscreen, but with long production times (months). I rode behind one for 15 years, 65,000 miles -- loved it -- and have one on order now for the new machine.

lgh,

Thanks for the correction. I looked at the parts fiche, the bar looked the same, and I jumped. Whoopsie.

Will barbacks for a GS fit? That's the same type bar...I guess it depends on the width of the clamp....a quick visit to a showroom with a ruler should resolve the question.

Verhalon has confirmed that their riser/bar back for a 28mm bar will fit the 2011 R1200R.
