Here in Melbourne we just had our yearly Motorcycle Show and the news paper advertising for the show had a huge picture of the new BMW K1300R and it said come and see the new bikes...So I went for one reason..To see the new K1300R..and was it there???... No.... The buggers like to suck you in don't they.

BMW just announced their new In-line 4's... Does anyone know if there are any significant changes from the K1200 bikes? They look the same pretty much, I think. Still pretty hot.

The BMW demo truck came to town 2 weeks ago and I thought it would have the 1300's. It didn't. One salesman said they weren't going to bring the 1300R to the states. I know when I wanted to get rid of my K1200R, nobody including the dealer wanted it. I rode the K1200S 2X and want to try the 1300S. I think I just got a bad R. I still love the RT though...

Wonder if they've improved the gearbox a little more? No more *CCCCRRRUNCH* at the lights would be nice!

Still miss mine, no servo brakes, standard indicators, be interesting when it hits.

My opinion about the K1300 is that it represents a small model improvement without much deep engineering improvement over the original K1200 in line 4's. Nice to freshen the line and justify price adjustments for the markets, but not necessisarily a reason to go big over the current offerings.

Time will tell.

Here is what is announced...

1293cc, 175hp (173hp R), 103ftlbs torque, ESAII adds spring rate adjust electronically 'on-the-fly', lightened front strut under duolever, improved throttle/fuel/exhaust management, quick shifter option from HP2Sport, improved ASC, improved driveshaft, NEW Universal style switchgear, change exterior styling/colors, balanced frame.

K1300S/GT to US in early 2009; K1300R to US undetermined at this time.

This bike feels just like the RR in flickability despite being nearly 100 pounds heaver and a longer wheelbase. Fine, fine machine. But for having to buy a big generator for my house for hurricane season I would have one keeping the RR company in the garage

Excellent report. I am trying so hard not to take one for a test. I have very little self control and these 1300's call to me way too much.

Got to say, I borrowed a K1300R from the dealer when my bike was in for service. Was really looking forward to it, but came away very disappointed. The eccentric cam on the throttle, made the engine feel non responsive and gutless low down, the mid range not much better, and everything else happening at the top end. The clutch was heavy, with the bite right at the end of the travel, with insufficient lever adjustment to give good control.

Injection mapping through town left much to be desired, and the accessory screen, didn't do a geat job of keeping the wind blast off. The "Hossack" front suspension didn't seem to offer much improvement over telelever or conventional front suspension to warrant the extra complication, and the general handling felt a bit dead. Gearbox? best not mentioned.

I did a 90 mile trip home, and went the direct route straight back to the dealer with it next day. Like I said at the start, I was really looking forward to trying one, but came away very disappointed with the whole package.

Does anyone know if the K1300R is suffering the same stalling problem that is plaguing the K1300S?

Just an aside ,TWO WHEELS Magazine in Australia this month chose K1300R as Bike of The year for 2009.

Anyone get a K1300R in the US? Notice available in Canada, but in the USA - no joy. Any issues with purchasing up North and bringing across border with licensing, etc.? Thanks.

I want a K1300R real bad!! I test rode a K1300S two years ago, I loved the power but the handle bars are too narrow and pulls strangely between my shoulders. I am not happy with BMW offering the K1300R in every country on the planet EXCEPT the USA....Damn them!

The lack of dive from the front end, which other systems provide much better longitudinal stiffness (front suspension).
