New - Acerbis Hand Guards for R1200R

Post by Mort »

Nippy Normans now offer Acerbis Hand Protectors specifically for our bikes - I know a few people have mentioned trying to fit generic Acerbis guards in the past. I would have gone for these if they were available rather than having to modify GS ones. I think they look pretty smart.

(Thanks to Peter for mentioning these on the rear fender extender thread)

Cool but they look like they don't give much coverage?

Those look pretty nice. Wish I'd seen this before I shelled out for the Barkbusters Storms last month.

Mort very kindly posted the pics of my bike with the Acerbis handguards fitted. As far as I am concerned, they certainly do the business- easy to fit, reasonable price and they keep the old hands out of the airstream giving me much more benefit from the heated grips.

Cheers

It looks like these guards are not attached to the bars on the inboard end - is that right? If so, I'll have to reevaluate some of the handguards I've considered to see if they can be mounted in a similar way.

Mort... thanks for the post ... is the cost 76 pounds for both sides? And is mounting these just nuts and bolts... no grinding or cutting. Given that the guards are sold as R specfic I guess they would just bolt up.
Thanks again...

76 pounds? Does that affect steering , handleing?

Hrm, you weren't seriously asking that were you? He did have the word "cost" in front of 76 pounds, which I understood it to mean a monetary value and not a unit of weight measurement.

Back to the OP, those hand guards look nice. It does not seem they would work well with a Throttlemiester though. Thanks for the pics.

They don't cover too much indeed... It make the bike maybe slightly wider in traffic while swerving in between cars but If I decide to order them it could be with the intention to stick a BikeVis Bullet on each of them somewhere at the extremity's.

Not sure if it would work but I'll tempted to experiment....

Here is another photos of the Acerbis “Dual Road” handguards:

Image

The hand guards go for $144 at Ride West BMW in Seattle, and they will soon have LED inserts that will be available to wire them up as marker lights. The more I see them the more I like them. Anyone know what happens to the stock bar end? Does it stay or do you replace it with the guard?

Yes, you just unscrew the original bar-end weights (and keep them somewhere you can find them again), and screw on the hanguards- 5 minute job!

A five minute job if you don't count trying to find the bar end weights again. I doubt I'd ever find them.

Follow-up on Throttlemeister question: Would you remove it to install guard on right hand bar? My bike came equipped with TM but I never use it.

This is definitely something I am going to pick up. I was holding off on GS guard modifications and this looks perfect.

Wish i had this in November, but better late than never!

These handguards look pretty sweet. Mr. Baker, they do seem awfully small to be effective, but you say they move the airstream away from your fingers? That'd be kind of nice on brisk 30F morning commutes to work. Also, I like the way they mount; without the connection on the inside of the handlebars. Again, looks very good.
