Re: Catalytic Converter - Catectomy Question
Cricman-- I too have considered gutting the cat for heat related issues. How was the performance affected? I'm not at all concerned about power increase (if any) but I'm told changes in back pressure may be an issue on overall performance. Wayne Honestly, No discernable difference of any kind regar...

Re: Catalytic Converter - Catectomy Question
I did mine a few years ago. The housing is roughly 16 gauge stainless. It doesn't require a lot of welding power to stitch it back together. I used a tig welder and 308L filler. If you can find a 4 lb spool of .30 308 mig wire and straight argon, you can mig weld it back together. To remove the corr...

Re: Can metal epoxy be chromed?
There is a vacuum plating process used in the automotive industry (and scale model industry, as well) that can put a metallic (aluminum that can be polished) plating on plastics. I'm not sure this will work in your case, but something to investigate: http://www.cvvacuumplaters.com/ http://www.srob.c...

Being a cheap Scotsman, I recommend the LCD VOM from harbor freight, usually on sale for $3. I currently own several VOMs; some classic Radio Shack stuff passed to me by my late dad, a nice armoured Triplett 9005, and some other oddball stuff. I like the cheap Hf units (I have 2; one with backlight,...

I think the intellectual property is the motorcycle which we paid for. The motorcycle, if copied, say by other lesser makers would be considered a piracy. The DVD is about the bike. The real intellectual hard work went into the bike. If the bike did not exist the DVD would have no value. In contras...

Re: BMW windshield rubber well-nuts
I don't know about ya'lls bikes, but on mine (2004 Silver), the OEM screen hardware was SAE 10-32. I lost one of the screws and the black spacer-thingy several months after i bought the bike, so I decided to replace the screw and thingy with another short screw and stainless washer until I fabbed an...

Re: Quick Disconnects
Hey Bob,
I just replaced my QDs and used a pair of "mini-bolt cutters" that I got for $8 from Harbor Freight. I used them on the QD clamps and the fuel line clamps at the tank. One snip and they were off. I replaced the old clamps with 5/16" FI clamps that I got from NAPA.

I bought a second pillion seat, and bolted on, from the underside, a Pelican Case. I want to say I used a 1450. I bought the case and seat used for a total of $50. I can always swap back seats if I want carry a passenger. I would imagine that I could carry about 40 pounds safely, but have never put ...

Re: Custom muffler on a budget, number 2
Doesn't a plasma cutter make a wide cut when it burns thru? (wider than a cutoff wheel). That would be harder to fill in upon rewelding. It depends on a couple variables: Wear on the electrode and tip, air pressure setting, speed of cut, angle of electrode, and thickness of material. I've made plen...

Re: Custom muffler on a budget, number 2
Anyone attempting this mod needs to realize you'll need about seven 3" high speed cutoff wheels to get thru the outer skin and very thick/heavy pipes inside. The main access hole also needs to be large enough to wrestle the securely welded and encased 3 pipe assembly out the opening . . . . as...

So you just plug the Battery Doc directly into the accessory outlet - you don't have to connect to the battery? I assume you got the Sport Battery Doc? thanks, JC Hey JC, You can plug it into the accessory outlet, or it also has the means to wire a fused pigtail to the battery. I think it is the Ba...

Re: Trickle Charger recommendation
I have used a Battery Doc for the last 3 years, and it has saved me over $100. How do I know? Because I killed the first battery due to infrequent riding habits. Since then, I have had no problems with my second battery. Its small, gel friendly, and came with the correct adapter for the BMW accessor...

Do all of the above, and check to make sure no visitors (wasps, mice, etc...) moved into your exhaust system in the last 18 months. Stranger things have been known to have happen.

Update: It's alive and kickin'!!! After reviewing some of the tech boards and the posts in this thread, I connected the hoses. I think that the thing that confused me about the illustration at the top of the post was that I didn't notice that the pressure gauge is actually in line. What clinched the...

Re: I'm a dunce,....fuel line connections question
Hey Hottech, I went with straght barbed connectors. I figure its better to lose a little gas in the garage, than any amount out on the road because of a failed connector. Before I button'er up this afternoon, I will probably add a circuit for my tom-tom. Outside of that, if the tank has to come off ...

Thanks for the input ya'll, Beemeridian, that's the way I deduced they would be set up; with the long section going to the bottom and the short on top. However, the diagram in this thread (from the manual) is confusing me, because it shows the pressure side (return to tank) as being on bottom but th...

I'm a dunce,....fuel line connections question
Okay, I finally had the need (like a lot of us here) to replace those POS quick-connects. So far, so good, except one detail. I remove all of the disconect components and didn't mark which was the return or feed line on the bike side. Luckily, the tank side is marked on the inlet and outlet tubes. I...
