Re: Slowly declining fuel mileage
No driveability issues at all. Oil usage is very slight, don't need to add between changes. Probably alcohol and winter blend.

Slowly declining fuel mileage
My '04 1150R seems to be returning somewhat less fuel mileage as it ages. Early in its life it consistently returned 47+ mpg with a few instances of 53 mpg. Now, with 92000 miles, it is averaging 45mpg. I don't think my riding style has changed. Could it be the almost universal alcohol in the gas th...

Re: GPS Altimeter
Every Garmin GPS I have ever owned would show altitude, including the Zumo 550. The only problem with the Zumo is that you cannot choose what data you want to see on any particular screen. All the info is there, just have to get to the right screen to see it.

Re: Alternator brush question
Easier to fix in my garage than beside the road, a.k.a. preventive maintenance. I know that brushes have a finite life, as does most everything else, and if the alternator quits, you won't get far.

Re: Parabellum/Aeroflow Tank Wings Performance
I have run that same combination for the past 75000 miles and love it. The only difference is I replaced the 23" Parabellum with a 21". At my height, this allowed me to look over it rather than through it. The tank wings are much less conspicuous on a black bike. I also used them as a moun...

Re: High mileage 1150R question
The only thing I have replaced on my 86K '04 was a driveshaft at 65000 mi. The front u-joint got real tight, noticed while rotating the rear wheel by hand while on the center stand. The clutch is original. I did replace the paralever bearings with bushings at 50K because an article in the MOA ON mag...

High mileage 1150R question
I have a 2004 R1150R with 86000 miles on it. It has been trouble free with the exception of a driveshaft at 65000 miles. I intend to keep this bike another year or two and need to be as sure as one can be of its continued dependability. I intend to pull the transmission this winter to check clutch c...

Re: whose using a EBC rear rotor
I just put an EBC MD653C on my '04 today (82000 mi.). It sure looks good and the price is good, $140.00. Can't speak to durability yet, but soon.

Re: Anyone Own A Parabellum?
I have the 21" Parabellum on my '04 with a laminar lip. I am 5'10" and still had more buffeting than I liked so I added the Airflow Tank Wings and eliminated virtually all buffeting. I can ride now with face shield in any position and it stays. Also can listen to the radio and GPS at any s...

Hall Sensor question
A friend of mine who rides a '99 R1100R just lost the Hall Sensor this weekend. More accurately, it seems to be the wiring that has broken down and shorted out. His bike has 97000 miles on it now. Is this a common problem with the newer bikes?? MIne is a '04 R1150R dual spark with 78000 miles. I hat...

2004 R1150R with heated grips, GS handguards, Gerbings heated jacket liner, Gerbings heated gloves and for really long or cold rides, Gerbings heated socks. Full face helmet with a balaclava and good waterproof riding boots. With this setup, I can be comfortable down into the low 30's. I hesitate to...

Re: R1150 v R1200R mmmmm..
I have never ridden a Rockster, but the dual spark plug engine is in the 'R' as well, starting in 2004. I don't know if it is on all the '04's, but mine is. The seating position is somewhat different due to lower bars, some like it, some don't.

Re: R1150 v R1200R mmmmm..
I must agree with Bill...The R1150R is a fine bike. I bought mine slightly used in March 2006 with 6900 miles on it, currently it is at 74200. While it is down on horsepower versus the Japanese 4 cyl's., the R has very usable, smooth power. It handles well, is a competent tourer (properly outfitted)...

Re: Rough idle, wants to stall
If you have a 'two spark' engine, it sounds like the 'coil sticks'. This is an ignition coil built into the plug cap on the primary plugs. My '04 two sparker did almost exactly the same thing. Two new coils later, all is fine. You will probably have to re-adjust your idle speed down if you cranked i...

If you have gotten 15,000 miles from a rear tire, any rear tire, it is time to retire it.

Re: Still waiting for my front Michelin Pilot Road 2
The PR2's were available last winter and this spring. I bought and wore out two sets since Dec. '07. Now however, there seems to be a problem getting the fronts. I am going to try a PR2 on the rear with the regular PR on the front. I have no idea what the problem may be.
