Since I got my Garmin Zumo, I've noticed a big difference in the Speedometer (haven't checked the Odometer) at highway speeds. Same as tower, 70 on the dial indicates 65 on the GPS, 80 on the dial indicates 70 on the GPS.

"do-rag" :
That's what I call it. It's commonly used by Hardley riders in place of a helmet. I like to use mine under the helmet. It helps to keep the hair from turning to helmet head and the helmet to smelly head.

I got this bag used and I like it. I have the side bags for anything that needs to be locked, but this is nice for going point to point, throw in a newspaper or my purse or whatever it is I just bought at the store. If I'm running in to Starbucks I can throw my gloves and do-rag in it. It's roomy en...

oops, I meant the East Coast of OZ. I'd love to go to the west coast as well, lots of great surfing out there, but that will have to be another trip. Will probably base in Sydney with possible forays to the Gold Coast and maybe down into Victoria. Late March, early April. Maybe do some caravan/campi...

DJ - love your ride pics and reports! PS: I'm looking into a longish holiday around Easter time 2009, in Australia and NZ. I will probably be picking your brain sometime in the future on ideas for possibly renting a bike in Sydney and exploring a bit of Oz's west coast by 2 wheels in between surfing...

Left foot first. I'm usually either in 1st or neutral already by the time I come to a complete stop. If not, I'll switch feet and get it into neutral once stopped. If I'm on a flat, I'll hold the bike up with the right foot down so I'm ready to go with a downshift. If I'm on a slope I'll hold in pla...

I've had great success with armor all. It helps if you keep the bike and bags out of the weather. Also, really saturate the bags with it. I found it even helps to cover up the scratches by evening out the tonality. Both of my system bags were bought used off of e-bay. They were very weathered. I hav...

Part Two - finished the bracket

Part 2 - finished the bracket for the left side system case. Got lucky with some handy raw materials ... as you'll see below. First off I stopped at Home Depot and picked up a framing bracket that seemed just about perfect. The piece is a Simpson Strong Tie part number RTU2 and cost about a dollar. ...

GeoffJ - It is difficult to find a good stainless tip in 1.75". You can find some cheapy chrome ones in that size, but I had trouble finding stainless. Darcym - you changed your camera ISO from 200 to 1600 at some point in taking the pictures? rd -- it was getting dark, and I was shooting a bl...

The trouble with buying an RT or LT or Gold Wing is that all the stuff is on there whether you want it or not. Part of the fun of the naked bike is that it gives you the opportunity to tweak it this way and that to your own fancy. With the bikes that already have a fairing, what are you gonna do exc...

I noticed that when I added the handguards I could feel more air coming up at me from below the handlebars and above the tank. You block the air one way and it comes at you from another direction ... :: sigh :: Actually that air was always there, I just didn't notice it before because it wasn't as i...

Step 2: Full size left side system case. I got one on e-bay for less than $100! The guy had them advertised as a case from a K bike, but close scrutiny of the pics convinced me that it was either an RT or RS bag! And I was right! (whew!) Here's the existing cases with city lids on: http://i95.photob...

The Exhaust for Full Size System Case Mod

So far, the CHEAPEST mod on the BMW R1150 R I've yet to complete. First remove the stock pipe: http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l134/doomscribe/Exhaust%20System%20Case%20Mod/1pipeoff.jpg The parts with old pipe on the table (man that thing was heavy!). Total cost $9.68. http://i95.photobucket.com/a...

a little too bumpy for my taste. The bumpy road didn't help (obviously). Love the tune.

Was this a helmet cam? I like seeing the rider's point of view, the trouble is that you end up getting a kind of tunnel vision unless you're using a wider angle lens. A good effort though.

That rockster tail is pretty slick. You'd think someone would latch onto that manufacturer and work out a distributor in the US. I've also wondered how hard it would be to find a domestic fabricator willing to do something similar? If you used the silver back plate from the rear seat compartment as ...
