I have the GS Hand guards and the tank wings on my 2004 R1150R. There is about an inch of clearance. However, I do have barbacks on it. They probably raise the bars an inch. So, it could go either way, but I get you could make it work. I bought my bike with the wings on it so I can't comment if they...

Thanks for the thoughts, I will try tightening the pivot bearing. The wheels seems solid to the final drive, but the whole final drive/ wheel has play at the pivot joint. I will let you know how it goes.
