Re: Why do you love your R1200R?
I agree with Bill's comment on low speed maneuverability. I came from a Honda ST1300, which is about 200 lbs heavier. The Honda was great at speeds faster than 10 mph, but was very cumbersome at low speeds. The R12R on the other hand feels very composed at all speeds. This nimbleness is the biggest ...

Re: My farkels want/need list
Before you spend big bucks on a replacement seat, see if this lower cost solution fixes the problem for you: http://www.alaskaleatheronline.com I can attest that the sheepskin pad worked wonders for my previous bike (ST1300). I haven't gone on a ride long enough to test it on my R12R. 1. Stock seat ...

That's a nice looking bike. Love the color!

Everything done, pipes, intake, power commander, progressive lowered shocks, and much more.

Re: New R1200R owner, setting up the bike for touring
I added the following farkles last week: 1. Moto-techniques bar risers. The best $55 that I have spent on farkles. The riding position (upper body) is perfect for me now with the low seat. 2. SW-Motech crash bars. Insurance to protect the engine in case of a tip-over. http://www.twistedthrottle.com/...

I use these: http://www.ziploc.com/Products/Pages/BigBags.aspx.
Seriously. They work very well, especially in segregating clean clothes from dirty / wet ones.

Re: bridgestone BT-23's
Standard. The GT tire is not available in the right size for the ST1300. I think the GT is specced for FJRs.

Re: bridgestone BT-23's
I just put them on my ST1300. I am quite impressed with the grip, no idea about wear yet since I've only put about 1000 miles on them. They do seem to be wearing evenly though.

Re: So is the OEM topcase rack necessary for touring?
I am in the same predicament. If I were to ride solo, I'd skip the topcase idea and go with the 51 L BMW softbag, or any other duffel bag held down with RokStraps. This would be better for your bike's handling as well. If you are riding two-up, then you definitely need a topcase for any serious tour...

Re: Using an O-ring as a throttle lock
I use one in conjunction with a crampbuster too, and it works well in damping the deceleration. One tip: get the o-ring in a bright color, so that it is easily visible. Mine is yellow, and I operate by feel, but sometimes a visual check helps too.

Re: New R1200R owner, setting up the bike for touring
Thanks to all for the replies! I just took the bike out for another spin - this time after removing the windshield. I must say that today's naked ride was far more comfortable than my previous ride with the 18" windshield. Yes, there was a lot of windblast, but it was clean air. I will post pho...

New R1200R owner, setting up the bike for touring
I just got a black 2008 R1200R yesterday with 3,100 miles. I had a lot of fun riding it and it handles beautifully. It's got the following options / farkles: ABS, center stand, On-board computer, heated grips, BMW sidecases, low seat, Z-technik windscreen, and hyperlite brakes. I like to go on long ...
