Re: Opening the Crash Bar can o' worms again
Bought mine with a set of black Hepco Becker bars over chrome head covers. Took them off to adjust valves and left them off. If I keep doing more gravel and dirt they should go back on I guess to protect the engine. Don't think the extra inch or so would make much of a difference for by leg though.

Re: fuel mileage?
Averages in the low fifties to high forties with speeds mostly in the 45-65 range but boy does it drop on high speed runs. I don't think I will ever stop trying to shift up into sixth. No need to downshift for passing though.

Re: Deisel Motor oil?
Good to know they will work well in the oilhead. Think the local Walmart had the plain Rotella T straight mineral oil and the previous owner of my wife's higher mileage oilhead recommended against synthetics for that bike.

Re: '95 R1100R Low Fuel Light Issues
I think you have inspired me to try and fix mine. It usually doesn't come on when it should as in before I had to push the bike down the freeway. Looks like the signal goes from sending unit to something called a Dail Needle Damping to the light. Havent located the Dial Needle Damping yet. Trouble i...

The bike speedometer sounds like a great idea if you really need to keep close track. I have been just relying on my GPS.

My second year with mine. Gets compliments from folks who don't even like bikes in general and those who know them well. Very forgiving ride.

Diesel engine oil is rated with an API symbol beginning with C as in CH-4. Gasoline engine oil is rated with a symbol beginning with S such as SJ.

Re: New to me R1100R and First Question. Dashboard turn lig
Not on my R11R yet but wiring on wife's R12C failed in one spot when I added risers. Pretty fragile wiring for a high end machine I think. Traced, spliced, heat shrinked, no more problems to date. Tried to route and secure harnesses to avoid pinching and pulling on both bikes as I added risers to mi...

Re: R1100R fuel tank capacity
Man I thought I was getting some great mpgs before I had to push for a mile or so. Previous owner didnt mention a failed fuel light. Anybody actually managed to squeeze over 4 US into an empty tank? Have gone + 180 miles a few times running less than 60 mph but in the fast lane I think about 150 is ...

Re: R1100r - can I use an exhaust from a r1200gs
Chris, my pleasure. I also started gathering plenty of info through the various forums. My advantage is that I am German and thus I can read all the stuff in the German forums (and that is where you find plenty of info ...). Anyway, keep asking and I am sure there'll be always somebody to answer yo...

Re: So lucky
Thanks for the report. Just got back from our vacation riding in Nova Scotia and needed some ideas for future trips. I would post pictures but getTing them off the iPad hasn't worked besides our riding gear is similar and I wouldn't want to offend the all leathers all the time crowd. Here we are in ...

Some of time I remember to pull the key. Maybe you have to leave it on the street over night lock the bars? Really two or three guys could have it van in seconds regardless if they
really wanted to.
really wanted to.

Re: How rare is the R1100R?
What is a CHiPs device? I gotta think the ugly duckling of BMW is the R1200C, at least in my opinion. At first I thought the R1100R was a little funny looking, but the more I ride it the more I love it. I came from riding Harleys and the funny thing is I've had more people scream "nice bike&qu...

Re: Should I adjust my valves, and or sync my throttle bodie
Can't see how anything could be hurt by checking the valve clearances. If it's quite and running well you may find they are OK. Well I take that back I almost shoved the timing mark cover inside my wife's engine last time but hopefully your are not as fat fingered and clumsy.

Re: R1100R new to me
I don't see where anyone has actual turned the engine over and or if the cable smoked when attempting to crank. Guess I would use the drive train in a high gear to turn it with the plugs out just to make sure. If the engine is locked a good battery could get the cables pretty hot. Hope it's not but ...

Re: lowering r1100r
Almost all preload out. Seat on lowest settting shaved the rear seat post blocks and put washers under front mount to get crotch out of tank pad. Installed handlebar risers. Bike pretty comfortable and tons of fun now. My inseam is about 30 but I can flat foot with room to spare. Will have wife try ...
Re: Risers
The bikes standard riding position would be fine for me but my limbs are probably a little shorter than it was designed for. I find this be to be true of most bikes in their standard configuration. The risers helped. The pullback is not much and all the cables and line reached fine. I did have to sn...
Risers
Ordered risers from twistedthrottle.com before I picked up my 'new' 01. Installed the night I brought it home. Had to take a little time and care not to scratch stuff. Was a little worried that the factory windshield wouldn't fit up but it did. For me the difference in reach made the riding position...

Seat Angle
Just bought 01. Was a little tall for my 31 inseam. Found seat was on highest position. Found Allen in tool set before I found the one under the seat and moved the mount to the lowest block. Went for a ride. Glad I wasn't planning on more kids due to the crushing effect. After trying every combinati...

Re: Your thoughts on upgrading to an R1100R
OK so I am responding to an old thread. It's the Sabre thing. Just sold my 02 to buy a 01 R1100R w/ 8K and am spending about 1.5K on the difference. Upright for my 50 year-old back. Fairly low for my short legs. A full featured performance bike folks are passionate about. No more hanging my head nex...
