Re: Touratech handguards

I installed the BMW hand guards with the little extension plus the Throttlemaster and am very happy. I finterested, I could clear out the cobwebs and look up exactly which ones I used, but I believe they were made to fit the R1200GS. My R is an 09. Good luck. dingle

Re: Aluminum Panniers

Mark, I have always been a fan of top loading panniers, but recently mounted a pair of Micatech panniers on my R1200R and I love them. They are side-loading BUT the hinge is partway up the side so that your stuff stays in when you open the case. I tend to overpack a bit and always have a duffel or a...

Re: trucking the bike

Your plan should work. I wouild add some concern about chafing, cause things will really shake around back there. You might wash the grit off the bike and put a clean bed sheet over the bike and make sure it is the only thing touching it. Then your are buffing, not chafing as you roll along. Good lu...

Re: My bike consistently runs out of gas

xprof, I sure will. It was killing me to know the same answer youi ask, but I could not fill it at that time. I suspect it will hold well over 5.5 because my average mpg was 46. We'll see. Ride safe.

Re: My bike consistently runs out of gas

WOW, I just intentionally ran my 2009 R1200R out of gas in order to store it. I has 2200 miles on the odometer, and this tank was all consumed at about 7000 feet in Wyoming with a variety of speeds, but no around town sort of riding. I was shocked to see 311 miles on the trip meter beofre it quit on...

Re: Killed a deer with the R

+1 on what curmudgeon said. I totalled my f65GS in Missoula last August when I hit a "live" deer (it would be Collision loss if the deer was laying there dead) and indeed it was covered under Comprehensive. Nice surprise. That, by the way, is how I came to own an R1200R, so it was not all ...

Re: Windshield Question

Simply stated, the Cee Bailey is a great windshield but if you follow the instructions on the website on recommended height, you will underestimate by 2-4". to their credit, they will let you exchange once without much hassle. they really ought to have you determine the heights above seat that ...

Re: windshields for R1200R

After two attempts, I have settled on a 22" Cee Bailey shield with no tilt---yet. No turbulence to speak of. Nothing new there. I would just caution anyone contemplating a Cee Bailey that there suggested sizes on the website are a bit off. By their chart my 5'6" height should have required...

That drive shaft slider looks like a good idea. I have not seen them before. Source?

Re: NOOOOOBIE Here 2010 White

Congratulations on what I hear is a great bike to ride. My 2009 White is still sitting in the dealership in Fairbanks, AK, where winter reigns. Cannot wait to get her out on the road. If you do decide on the BMW System cases, I will be willing to sell mine. I like the top-loaders so have decided to ...

Re: Fair Purchase Price '09 1200R, 2100 miles

Drive a hard bargain! I am writing a check today for $11,000 OTD for a new 09 with ABS, computer, side cases, center stand, heated grips and I am thrilled. ANd BTW, thanks to all of you for all the useful info that has been posted on this site. I hope to contribute some myself, once I get this ride ...
