Re: FUEL REGULATOR FOR R11r
Nope! The Clymer lies (there's a surprise) If you snip all the cable ties on the rear sub frame, remove the abs unit and battery tray and 4 bolts from the sub frame you can pivot it up and get the airbox out. The clymer also says you can remove the battery tray without disconnecting the abs... Guess...

Re: R850R sometimes running on 1 leg
The A arm is the same but the paralever arm from the gearbox to the final drive is shorter. Its a commoin mod on the r1100s.

Re: R850R sometimes running on 1 leg
Can you post some pics with the GS footrest plates on ? - I guess you are also using GS stands. My 850 aslo has GS suspension on it now and I've had to lengthen stands but the logical solution may be GS footrest plates. Did you also change the paralever arm for a GS one ? Regarding the original ques...

+1 for the screw driver
Guessing you have a K&N oil filter which has a hex at the bottom which appears to be made of some sort of rare cheese that is allergic to reasonable tools

Re: don't leave your bike running in the parking lot
Oh jesus, I think this is serious and its not the first time I've heard of it! To be fair 20 minutes with no oil is probably not the end of the world. Stick some oil back in it and ride it. Just try and learn a bit of mechanical sympathy. When it does go bang which it will your penance should be to ...

Re: New to the gang and seat questions!
If you have no screen at all I'd look for an r1150r one on ebay or maarktplatz and see if you can pick one up cheap to see if it fits. The stock bmw 1100 screen as not great if you're tall anyway.

Re: New to the gang and seat questions!
Windscreens come up but the fitting kits don't
I've been told that the r1150r screens will fit the 1100r bit have not tried it - they are still available both secondhand and from BMW

Re: Windshield question
Apparently the screens for an r1150r fit the 1100r using the bmw fitting kit according to the parts guy at our local dealer. I've never parked mine next to an 1150 to compare but given that the clock mounts and headstock area are very similar just the bars that differ, it would seem to make some sen...

Re: Windshield question
I noticed the other day that "Scaretech" or rather airtech streamlining also do a rather nice looking nose faring for the R which might be worth a go - fit is always a bit "fun" with them

I can give you details of a couple of companies here in the UK but none in the US I'm afraid

Re: New to the gang and seat questions!
Sorry not checking this thread very often - yes they are - they need a little bit of re shapping to fit around the screen mount on the left bar I find but that could just be the position I run the levers in . I've also got a Ceebaileys screen and thats so much better than the stock one and doesn't l...

Conti road attacks I find are great tyres but for all round use the avon storm 2 takes some beating.
The maxxis tyres are also supposed to be pretty good too

Re: Soon to be BMW R1100R owner
Other thing to think about is the seat, my seat is about 6cm higher than standard and completely changes the character of the bike as I sit on it rather than in it.

Re: Soon to be BMW R1100R owner
What I woulkd say about the Remus is go for a stainless or titanium can, the finish is tougher and they sound a bit crisper on a twin, I have an aluminium can and the finish is good but not great if you ride in the wetter colder months (if you ride in a swedish winter snow chains may be a better inv...

Re: Soon to be BMW R1100R owner
Magnus - Think about some city lids for the panniers - they make them nice and slim - slimmer than the cylinders I use them everyday for my commute and can quite easily do a week away with them and a tank bag. The left one becomes very small but fits my laptop perfectly If you're looking for a more ...
