Re: First long ride...
I have the exact same bike. I find no mater how I ride (I don't do much extended high speed), I get 165/170 miles to warning light.
Also you mentioned 90 MPH at 4,000 RPM? 4k on my R is about 75 on my GPS in 6th gear.

Re: Got my roadster!
I have the same color combo. I think it is by far the best color BMW offered in the 1150R.
It has taken about 6 months to get to love the bike (I came off a R1100RS). Great choice.

Phil,
How much do you estimate you need to lower your bike/seat to allow you flat foot?

Where to mount a thermometer
I just purchased a Flomotion round thermometer with a adhesive back about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. I am looking for mounting suggestions.
Anyone have experience (good of course) in mounting one of these?

Re: Valve covers
You mean one is supposed to wash bikes? No, I have not used any product on the bike that was not used in the past. Oh well, mabe it's just a BMW anomaly. The only thing I can think of is something chemically active got onto them and the heat acted as a catalyst to make it react with the bl...

Re: Valve covers
Oil is right across the red sight glass dot. Not more than 700 miles old. Running Mobile 1 20/50.
Valve covers were warm after a ride today, but not hot, you could touch with your bare hand without burning yourself.
Any ideas?

Valve covers
I have an '02 R1150R with factory painted valve covers. Up until last week they were blue to sorta match the wheels. Then almost over night the covers turned dark charcoal. I've been doing a little riding, but nothing special. Any ideas what caused this? The bild is running fine.

Re: pushing the range limits!
I get about the same on my '02. However, I've never really pushed after the warning yellow light comes on. I usually try to plan to fill up at about 140/160 miles.

I suggest you leave it the way it is because no one will believe the story once fixed.
All kidding aside, I wish I could help, but all my R parts are on my R. I suggest beamerboneyard.com. You may just get lucky.

Finally, the gas tank saga ends
Removed and reinstalled the gas tank. It was easier than my old R1100RS. About one hour to remove and reinstall. Next time it should go faster. There was an issue aligning the tank, but a phillips screwdriver inserted in the bolt hole brought the tank inline. A trick learned with my RS. Thanks for y...
