Don't hesitate on the fuel filter, it wasn't THAT bad. Just run the tank low and be gentle when wiggling it in and out.... oh and don't be a ding bat like me and try to disconnect all the lines while hold the tank in your other arm

Re: could it really have been that easy? valve adjustment...
I've put around 5k on mine since I bought it earlier this year too! I am slightly worried about the reported breaking fuel connections, is this a pressing issue that I should address sooner than later? With my rather limited funds I'm trying to cover all my bases, including getting more proper ridin...

could it really have been that easy? valve adjustment...
So over the past seven years I've progressed from a 250 nighthawk to a 650cs, and from the cs to an r1150r. I literally knew NOTHING about maintenance. I've since started working on the r1150r and have been pleasantly surprised by how simple this thing is to work on. I just replaced the air and fuel...

Re: joined the oil head club!
Not worried about the tranny being overfilled, more worried about the FD. Seemed like the threaded portion extends deeper on the rear, as opposed to the front. I was filling, looking from the rear forward and when i eventually changed my vantage point, observed that the rear *seemed to project deepe...

Re: joined the oil head club!
Some time has passed and just thought i'd throw in an update...I've put some miles on the steed and am loving this german more and more. I just changed the oil, FD and tranny fluids.... seemed easy. I didn't have a torque wrench and feel a little worried about how much gear oil I used, but I think i...

Re: First BMW
I almost looked at that bike! Ended up with a different 1150r, but glad to see someone grabbed it. I've been racking the miles up on mine and loving every minute of it

Re: joined the oil head club!
I knew i was paying a bit more than market, but for some reason here in the Detroit area it's almost impossible to find reasonably priced beemer. With the accessories and condition, i didn't feel too bad. I've been getting better with the shifting and am looking at my first ride out of the state soo...

joined the oil head club!
Howdy hive, just thought i'd check in as a new boxer owner. I've been riding for about 6 years, starting with a dinky 250 nighthawk. I progressed to an f650cs, which gave me some initial headache, but I still love that bike. Some craigslist browsing (my downfall) and $5000 later.... a beautiful 2002...
