Re: Air intake snorkel mod
I think BMW turned to custom shops to have the first R nine T's built, and now they can't keep up with demand.

Re: I just retired...
We start losing important reaction ability, physical and mental as we age. Very big of you to make the right decision. I only wish more drivers would understand that and hang up the keys. And, I hope I have the sense to do the same when my time comes. Heal well!

Re: Air intake snorkel mod
I think it's great when people "fuss" with their bikes. Could be some good stuff comes out of it. I have a F250 van that gets oil and gas, no interest what so ever with playing with it. But a motorcycle, go for it. I monitor R Nine T forums because those guys mess around. Could be some cha...

Re: Air intake snorkel mod
Turned 60 today! Ripe, but not ready to fall off the tree. Had the 2013 R1200R in for service. All the techs liked the air snorkel mod. The "team" said no running issues. Not the first air delivery modification they have seen! Had the throttle sync done and the 90th is running smooth.........

Re: felt a bit of a difference between 09 and 2014
My opinion is....you would probably be happy with a shock upgrade, which is something most owners are always pleased with(not a huge cash output). And, there are always mint condition R1200R's for sale if you want a newer one down the road. And, you may find that a future LC model may be an excellen...

Re: Air intake snorkel mod
A well designed air intake is typically tuned to try to smooth out power delivery without any real peaks. Part of the tuning is the length of the induction path.
I've read that info doing my research and thank you for pointing it out. There may be a performance difference that would ...

Re: Air intake snorkel mod
Sorry guys, I don't have a picture hosting site. Basically it is cut to the bottom shape of the cover and the same "slightly lower on the inside", like the end of the original. All you see is the cover really. I guess I was disappointed that the snorkel didn't have a better finish, more li...

Re: Air intake snorkel mod
Did the mod. Had a chat with a long time BMW mechanic who said I'm not the first to cut the snorkel back, out of site. He said that the slightly larger air intake would have no ill effects. After a long ride I would say there is no running difference. I'm happy with the look now that I don't see tha...

Re: Air intake snorkel mod
Yes, that's the way I'm looking at it. If the mod is a failure, I would be able to replace it again. But still $130-150.00 is not so cheap. I wonder why the Lo Rider concept bike, while morphing into the RnineT, had the snorkel lengthened?

Air intake snorkel mod
I'm really not liking the look of the air snorkel sticking out on my R. I saw a picture of the BMW Motorrad Lo Rider concept bike in the last BMW Motorcycle mag. This is the bike that became the R Nine T. The snorkel is short and sweet. Can anybody think of any issues with cutting the snorkel so it ...

So, you are saying that the booster plug, or similar unit, is not going to contribute to more fuel being added after a certain amount of time?

Re: Booster plug
You won't notice any difference with gas usage. Not really a big deal with a motorcycle is it? I bought the other make of plug in unit. Seems to smooth low speed performance.

Re: twin cam exhaust?
I also removed the exhaust flap on the recommendation of the dealer tech. Probably after 2 months of buying new. Definitely no lost power or torque anywhere, maybe more low end power. Can't think of any engine that would be stronger with a stuffed up exhaust. Please correct me if I'm wrong. It is a ...

Re: Engine noise at startup
Yes, I guess I thought the alternator was aft on the motor. Thought I saw it under the rear of the tank. If the belt is at the front that could be the noise. That would be a relieve.

Engine noise at startup
2013 R1200R with 4800kms. Oil level good. Maybe 3, possibly 4 times ,since new, when I start the bike I've had it make an awful squeaking, rubbing, scrapping sound in the front part of the engine as it runs. If I bring the revs up it either goes away, or maybe I just can't hear it then. I can't say ...

Re: Mobil 1 Motorcycle Oil
A distinction should be made between Mobil1 and Mobil1 Motorcycle oils. It's an apples and oranges issue. Just saying 8-[ That is right! Most important if it's a wet clutch situation. Dealer suggested I stick with mineral until 10K (2013 R). All my K bikes received Mobil 1 first change, with no iss...

Re: Questions from a prospective buyer
My 2013 also has the "computer". Thought it was going to be the same as the one on my last bike, K1200S. Not even close. I would not waste my money on that option. Never use anything but the outside temp gauge, and I could figure out if it was warm or cold without it! I would say cancel an...

I've had shudder also, on different bikes. I always replaced the pads with better quality ones and problem fixed.
May not be your issue, but I'd try that first.

Re: Is normal to expect a cleaning with a 7K service
The dealer I use normally washes the motorcycles after a service. Both BMW dealers where I live do. I deliver mine to them spotless and ask them not to wash it after service. My thinking is that I do a better job of it and use cleaner sponges etc. so as not to scratch the paint and sport screen. Whe...

Re: I'm selling my 07' R1200R.
Sheer beauty and form may be enough reason alone to buy a bike, all the rest will fall into place. From the little emblem in the center of the headlight to the attractive air intake (why does the intake on the R1200R look like a donkey penis?) the Nine is an affordable production work of art. I'm su...
