ROCKSTER SOLD! OWNERS TAKE NOTE:
My 2004 ROCKSTER was listed for $5400, SOLD for $5900, buyer transferred to new owner for $7200 ~ !! Bids were as low as $3200. NADA price is $2790 ~ $3670! (NADA bases price on a formula including average miles of 5,000 to 6,000 mi per year meaning an 11 y/o bike at NADA pricing would have 55,000 t...

Re: Just bought a basketcase Rockster
Foremost thing is to change out the OEM cam chain tensioner, left side, with the BMW upgrade if it has not been done. This is crucial. Very few owner's even know about this issue that can turn your engine into an expensive paperweight in seconds. BMW should have made this a recall item. As it stands...

$$ Rockster Buy or Sell Actual Prices Paid Rising $$
Guys, check this out. Mouse across the bar chart at the bottom of the page. Some owners don't know the value of what they have. A Lime Green 2004 with 23,000+ miles went for $8,000+ at the recent Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale AZ. An Ed 80 went for $7,800 in a private sale to an investor in NZ a few ...

Re: Leaking Oil Filler Cap
Agreed that even replacing the entire oil fill cap assembly with new OEM will not solve this design flaw for long. Some techs do use a sealant around the base when installing a new one with success. I particularly like Permatex High Tack Gasket Sealant item #80062 as it does not harden. Even silicon...

Re: Just bought a Rockster what do I need to know?
The two most critical issues are the cam chain tensioner and the clutch to transmission input spline design flaws. Either one can turn your R1150R/ROCKSTER into an expensive paperweight with no warning. First go to: http://www.affordablebeemerservices.com/bmwthoughts/ Cam chain tensioner upgrade: ht...

Re: How many R1150R and Rocksters were produced? Two questi
Sold prices have been rising the last 2 years. I saw a 4k Edition 80 go for $6995 last Sep. (2014). Three near-pristine Rocksters bought for $4980 (Citrus), $5850 (Orange), $6200 (Orange). The NADA depreciation formula value's at $3765 (Dec. 2014). Interesting bikes may become "classic" wh...

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis
Agreed with Rags, probably because engine impulses at low revs impact the driveline etc. Years of studying spline failures suggests the core issue is misalignment. Second is corrosion. Lube appears to have less to do with it other than preventing rust/corrosion; the fore and aft movement on the shaf...
