Re: 2008 Summer Journey
Gypsy, what a great on going adventure you're having...absolutely fantastic. By the way there's a better bike to replace your RR.....R1200R  You should try the new 800 gs if you get an opportunity.....It may be less power on paper but with horspower to weight ratio, should be as fast as the 115...

Re: 2008 Summer Journey
Kristi congratulations on your new purchase, I’m sure you will love it. Once you get used to the higher stance and longer suspension travel you’ll probably realize that it handles as well as your R1150R if not better as long as the bike is not too tall for you and weight wise 1200 GS I don’t think i...

Re: Distance Travel on the R1200R
Just did 4 days and aprox 1600 miles 2 up with one 10 hr day. Bike is bone stock with BMW full lugage and no windscreen at all. I'm a sport bike rider/racer that also loves road riding and have always had multiple bikes for different purposes and just for the love of them. I'v pretty much ridden eve...

Re: 2008 Summer Journey
What will a blown fork seal look like? Well defenately not like the one on the beach  Basicaly fork leg would be all wet with oil. In your case on the DR it would start seeping out of the rubber bot on the upper part of the fork. Theres lot less chance of this hapening on the Beemer do to the d...

Re: 2008 Summer Journey
Got to say you're more adventurious than most guys I know.....good on you. Just a couple of pointers on the towing thing. Try not to compress the forks too far in, which is easy to do with those rachet style tie downs. It's too hard on the seals and you will blow them out sooner or later. Rule of th...

BTW I have to agree with Don, the coefficient drag reduced by the pin stripes make it the best handling and fastest 1200R...

Thanks for all the kind words. I'm now battling with my (crappy) insurance about my surgury, they don't want to cover it. I might end up paying out of pocket. ( I'm also working out the details of self pay with the hospital, whoever makes the surgery happen first is the route I will take) At this p...

S#@t, as much as part of me cant be bothered replying to this I'm just Fu%$ing compeled to. Only some of the first GS's failed. Much steeper angle on the shaft and lots of off road abuse and there was no recomendation of final drive oil chenge = to smal percentage of failures. SO FU#*ING WHAT, three...

Looks good.
I find the sport screen more than adequate and find tall screens to noisy. The bike in my opinion looks best with sport screen.

Re: California Dreamin' (bad for dial up)
Chitown, whatever you do do not try KTM 950 SM, it's as bad as the R1200R on the pocket book. :D I've owned/built few so if you need any info, be glad to help. Fantabulously amazing! ( since wow, great, spectacular, fabulous, etc. has already been used) You truly have a great gift in your photograph...

Re: California Dreamin' (bad for dial up)
Wow awesome report. I can’t wait to ride through all that California on my way to Baja in September.
Gypsy you sure do take amazing pictures.
Thanks for shearing, it gives me great inspiration to stick with my plans and get through this miserable cold northern weather.
Cheers

Re: ESA or Öhlins?
I chose to go without ESA because I wanted high end suspension like Ohlin’s or Wilber. With the ESA you couldn’t replace the stock shocks with after market ones, well not till now anyways. To my surprise I just found out that WP has started to make them for HP2 at this point but not su...

Re: ESA or Öhlins?
I chose to go without ESA because I’d rather spend money on Quality suspension and set it up correctly. This also allows me to adjust the ride height in the back and quicken up the steering. I’m not sure yet, Ohlin’s or Wielber. If you’re not a real aggressive rider ESA w...
