Re: Winter Riding Gloves
Long time Lee Parks rider, and there simply is nothing else comparable. With heated grips I'm good into the high 30's, and in the upper 40's my hands are plenty warm. For colder.....truth be told I have no interest in riding on sub-zero roads. I tucked the front end last winter, didn't fall, but tha...

Re: Shock Adjustments
Start with the settings advised in the owners manual. If the bike is wallowing in corners you probably need more damping. Try searching the web on how to set sag, although it's a bit tricky on the front, but less critical too. Probably setting rear sag and damping is most critical. I replaced my sto...

Re: xmas day ride
Marine dad, nice photos. About this GS idea...a couple weeks ago I went dual sporting with a friend of mine, he lent a DR-z400 to me and rode his own KTM. We went to the top of Saddleback Mountain in California. Now I dirt ride occasionally, my friend does alot, and he was a nationally ranked MX rid...

Re: BMW Lo-Rider
I saw this bike at the Cycle World show in Long Beach. It actually is very cool looking, and I liked it much more than I would have thought. And I'm pretty old school too.

Re: R1150R transportation - Van option?
All good advice so far. I would add to make sure you have a good ramp. I used a dirt bike ramp ( a narrow ramp) with side rails to load my Ducati SS on a truck bed recently, and it was tenuous. I wouldn't want to duplicate the experience with an 1150r. The ramps that are convex in profile are best, ...

Re: Surging or balance issue? Rough ride at 3-4k
BMW's do not and have never surged. Ask anyone at the factory....Ok now that you've stopped laughing, the problem described sounds like something other than the usual surging, which is typically in the lower gears at light throttle opening, and 3500 rpm or less. Shouldn't do it at speed in a higher ...

Re: R1150R - for a tall guy?
Morrie, The windscreen debate has been solidly in place since the bike was released. I fact, several of the first owners that appeared on this board were whining about windblast....well, ya did buy a naked bike, right? No matter, just wanted to point out that in 7 years there still has been no "...

Re: Y Pipe
I have a Sebring Y pipe, and second the positive comments. They will pop a bit on over-run, more so if there are any exhaust leaks between header and exhaust. This has to be totally sealed with hi-temp sealer.

Re: is this the best bike ever?
Close call. Certainly for an all arounder best by far. I also have a 1992 Ducati 900ss, which I bought new, and have 38,000 miles on it. Hi comp pistons, ohlins, Keihin soothbores, lots of other lttle stuff, and it is the best sporting streetbike I have ridden, including a 955sp that I own and 999's...

There is definitely a service life on spark plug wires. Very difficult to predict, but symptoms generally start out with very intermittant mis-fires.

Pirelli Diablo Stradas. 6000 miles on the set of aggressive riding. The rear is at the wear bars now, front has another couple thousand. Awesome tire.
They warm up quickly, great traction, and totally neutral steering. Cornering traction is only a fraction short of Metzeler M3's

Re: To your best knowledge who manufactures Y-pieces?
I have a Sebring Y pipe, and bought it around 4 years ago. Don't know if they are still around. It fits well, and really cleans up the underside of the bike as well as being several pounds lighter. Bike runs smoother, gives a bit of rumble to the exhaust, and torque and HP seem to be somewhat increa...

Re: exhaust options - R1150RA
Be sure to dump the cat converter first. For the change in hp read the two links below. I have a sebring Y pipe with stock cans. An improvement in smoothness, power, weight difference I can feel, and most importantly, a major heat source under the gear box is gone. Try a Y pipe first, then add a can...

The following is usually met with skepticism, disbelief, and non belief, but.....If you ride in a position of slightly leaning forward, enough to keep the lower back slightly concave, vs convex (in a slouch), your lower back will be infinitely better off. I have torn muscles in my lower back three t...
