Re: PR3s vs PR2s, Stella!'s shoes wear out

After two sets of PR2s Thanks for that writeup Dr. S., I appreciate your observations on the handling characteristics between the PR2 & PR3 I replaced my ME880's with PR2's this summer and have found them to be a good choice so far (2000 mi). Handling and turn in is quicker they seem just as pr...

Re: Speedo Drive

My observation is that, yes, it does affect the odometer readings as well. I have an 05-R1200RT, the speedometer matches the GPS up to at least 85. I have an 02-R1150R, the speedometer under reports the speed compared to my GPS. I.E. Bike speedo reads 70, GPS reads 65. Bike is running the appropriat...

Re: Anyone have an RT?

I have an 05 R1200RT in addition to my 02 R1150R. The RT gets better mileage 65 vs. 45. It's better suited to very cold, very hot (108+) or very wet riding conditions. It has less than half of the wind noise of the R with the stock windshield. It's much quicker and smoother than the R. I bought mine...

Re: Metezeler Z6 Interact on R1150R?

Rob, I'm a relatively new rider and my experience has been limited to these two bikes and an R1150RT. I bought both bikes used and they came with the tires I noted. The 2002 R1150R is my first bike, I wore the last 7000 miles out of the ME880s it came with. Beeing a newbie, I didn't want to change u...

Re: Metezeler Z6 Interact on R1150R?

I've got the z6's on my R1200RT and I have the ME880's om my R1150R. I find the ME880's provide better grip, inspire greater confidence and provide much better overall handling. I don't think I'll get another pair of z6's

Re: Diagnosis Please

I had the same issue, thought it couldn't be something as simple as the shifter, after all it "seemed" to work fine. But it was simple enough to take apart and lube, especially the pivot shaft. It made a difference right away. I do get a burning smell from time to time, when standing at th...

Re: Headlight-tilt adjustment for '04 R1150R

I had the same issue and followed the instructions in the delivery / maintenance manual and they worked perfectly. hint - I had someone else adjust and tighten the bolts on the headlight while I was on it. Here's the page. http://i768.photobucket.com/albums/xx325/MR_C_2005_TL/Motorcycle%20Pro...

Re: running awful

I took the experienced rider class in the spring. It was a HOT day, lots of starting / stopping. The bike ran fine all day, then half way home it started developing a serious engine vibration. Checked a few things to no avail, but it was due for the 24K service including valve adj and TB sync, so I ...

Re: So, Daryl_Stamp, you planning a fingerlakes Bash '10?

Anyone planning on attending the Finger Lakes BMW Rally in two weeks? We will be camping there for the weekend and live just over the hill ( 20 minutes) You can find us working under the Flee Market tent at the Rally. If you are attending the Rally for the weekend and have motorcycle related items ...

Correct: The guarantee does not apply to their torque wrenches. On the plus side, they were able to sell me replacemnet pawls for a 20+ year old torque wrench.

Re: BMW boots run very large?

Yes, I meant to say the 44's would have been a better fit in the long run. The 45's seem like an 11.5. After 6 months of riding they are probably closer to a 12. If BMW sizing is consistent, I'll end up with the airboots in a 44 come spring. Lucky for me, my dealer is only about 1 mile away, so tryi...

Re: BMW boots run very large?

I wear a US size 11 and bought the BMW "all around" boots in size 45. When trying them on, I also found the 44 a bit snug. It turned out the 45's streched within 6 months... and probably would have been a better fit. I'll be looking for the BMW "Air boots" next year in a 44

how about the R1100RT? There is one of those for sale as well. Is the 1150 a lot better? The 1100 is quite cheap! For my vacation this summer, I rented a 99 R1100RT from RJ at http://www.classicmotorcyclerides.com/ . I spent 3 weeks touring / camping in the northwest (Glacier, Yellowstone, Tetons, ...

+1 on the left cam chain tensioner. My bike was sounding like a diesel truck while waiting for the stop light to change on a hot day. The idle seemed rough as well. After reviewing a few posts on the subject, I deciced to do the upgrade as Boxer described http://www.r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=...

Re: Looking at a 2004 R1150R and 1997 R850R

My situation was similar, in June 2007 I just got my license through the MSF course and was looking for my first bike. For comparison I was 45, 210#, 6'0" tall, 31" inseam. With 3 motorcycle shops within 2 miles of my house I was able to check out harleys, suzukis, kawasakis, hondas, yamah...

+1 on the PIAA 1100X. I installed a pair following this procedure: http://www.r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1471 They are very white and contrast with the standard yellow halogen headlight, which makes it stand out a bit more during daylight. I followed the documented headlight aiming pr...

Re: OPINONS ON AIRHAWK SEATS

My wife could only tolerate about 25 miles on the stock seat. Tried the AirHawk at a rally and ended up buying one. Seemed to make things worse for her. Ended up returning it and buying a Sargent. She can now ride 300-400 miles without a complaint The difference between the stock and Sargent seat th...

Re: i need to find a better seat..ohhhhhhhhh

+1 on the Sargent. My main reason for looking for a replacement seat was to have my wife come along. With the stock seat she could only stand about 30 miles. She described it as extreemly uncomfortable with a lot of pressure on her tailbone. We tried the AirHawk and that didn't help. I believe the p...
