Re: R1200R vs R1200GS
I had a 2000 Varadero (1000), that I brought back from the U.K.. I just sold it this spring. It is a very capable touring bike. Although not quite as sharp handling as the RR. I was comparing the Varadero to the GS, which I don't feel handles as sharply as the RR either ... and a huge price differa...

Re: R1200R vs R1200GS
If you want good (real off-road) suspension then the 800GS is the ticket. I've ridden plenty of 12gs's and really don't see much of a difference than the R.... I know, it has a little more travel, but it's still way more biased towards street riding than the 8GS. I can literally ride over cement pa...

Re: R1200R vs R1200GS
Howard, Not to be contrarian, but my GS experiences have been great. Each winter I go south to Arizona with my Harley buds and rent a GS. This year, two of us rented '09 GS's. The other guy is 20 years my junior and an accomplished sportbike rider; my last ride (dearly departed) was an '09 Hayabusa...

Re: R1200R vs R1200GS
mtl-R12R, Only you will know but the simple equation is if you push the R1200R to its limits you will be disappointed in the R1200GS IMO. They are almost the same bike but one (R1200R) is an aggrerssive riders upright while the other (R1200GS) is a a tourers delight IMHO. By the way there is no dou...

Re: R1200R vs R1200GS
For what it's worth I had the same dilemma. A short 'long winded' history. Bought a F800ST in mid '07. Loved it. Posted 12,000k's in 6 months. Wanted more power for long days in the saddle. Bought a R1200R in Nov '07. Loved it. Posted 48,000k's in 18 months rode up and down the east coast of Austra...

Re: R1200R vs R1200GS
I so much appreciate all of the input ... this is what I need ... I too have been totally seduced by my RR, and am concerned that the GS might well solve the suspension issue, but leave me "unattached" .

Re: R1200R vs R1200GS
i test road the r1200gs before i test rode the r1200r. i expected to be enamoured with the gs, coming from an f650gs and just wanting more motor. well, the gs felt like i was riding a toilet, sorry to state it so crassly. it felt very stout and long, too long, and was geared very low for the street...

Re: R1200R vs R1200GS
Have you considered a suspension upgrade? Those on here who have done it really are impresses with the improvement. I have ridden the GS bikes and am not really impressed with the ride for th substantial upcharge for them: kinda ho-hum for me. OTH you really should grab a ride on the K1300GT. That ...

R1200R vs R1200GS
I have owned and very much enjoyed my R1200R acummulating over 20,000 km since my purchase last spring. I have owned and ridden motorcycles all of my life, and the R1200R is by far the best all around bike that I've had. My riding is a mix of daily transport to and from work and recreational riding ...

Re: Lowered R12R?
If the VIN is saying low with a low seat you can presume that it is. The differance in height may have to do with how the dealer had set up the suspension on the bike that you sat on at the dealership. If the preload was at its weakest position compared to what you might have it set to now, it may a...

Re: This Week's $64K Question
It could be the sudden death battery syndrome, but you did say that the starting has become gradually more difficult. I have to wonder if it isn't a case of the alternator not producing enough power to keep up with the additional load of the lights ??? I'd try to put a charger on it between rides an...

Re: Back Fatique
Looking for some advice. On my 07 R12R, I have intalled a Parabellum Scout (have used both the 18" and 20" windshield) and a custom Russell Daylong solo seat. I'm experiencing upper left side back fatique after thirty minutes or so. In additional I have bar backs in place. I used a loaner...

Re: Good Vibrations...Not!
hi Ron....i am a little puzzled bu you percieving the brakes work better then before....when you do the recall fix...they only reroute the break line under the tank....in some cases they may change the line......but this has nothing to do with how the brakes work......if you changed the pads then y...

Re: GPS choices
Since there seems to be a bit of GPS discussion going on about now, it's time to ask again about options. First, this seems to be a Garmin-oriented crowd. Anyone have any experience with the TomTom Rider (2)? Is it worth considering vs. a Zumo? Second, I don't wear a headset while riding, so I don'...

Re: 2009 Alpine White R1200R
Hi, My name is Richard and I am new to the board. Today I traded in my 2006 RT on a brand new 2009 Alpine White R1200R. It won't be made for a couple of months but the dealer gave me a grace period of 2500 miles on my/their RT. I live and ride in the Santa Fe, New Mexico area. I'll keep you posted....

Re: Need Seat advice
The tall seat option still didn't work for me; it was too narrow and peaked in the center. A RIck Mayer seat -- with the height equivalent to the tall seat option -- does work for me. See the thread on handlebar and mirror replacement for pics. Ditto ... it was the narrow and peaked in the center t...
