jon, thanks for your many excellent posts. I traded in an '88 K75s for my Rock when I moved to Tucson a few years ago because the heat from the radiator was too dam much in 100* plus temps. (OK, it was love at first sight.) I would cautiously define the K as a competent well-bred horse and any big R...

I hope they helped some. I believe they were not intended to save all damage in a crash at speed, but rather in a tip-over at rest or low speed. It's too much to expect them to perform like regular crash bars. I wonder if they broke off on impact or were worn away during the slide or both. Either wa...

Thanks for the great pics also! Whoever designed these desert roads forgot to put curves in 'em and I am glad they still exist where you are!

I'm with you. Clean up, replace a few parts & leave the scuffs. That's real. But then I'm in Tucson where it seems every third vehicle is dented, torn, & duck taped. People don't drive here; they careen from place to place caroming off of other vehicles, pedestrians, and sundry objects. Hit ...

I know the Staintune does not require repacking. Does the Remus>? Had a Staintune on my K75S & loved it. Perfect fit, no maintenance, more power, good sound.

Silver
The silver engine and drive housings are not usually painted. Some have bare metal, others may be clear coated. Hence there would be little change in color unless the clear coat yellows.

"Cheap" can mean poorly made, "inexpensive" I agree they are not. They are well made but apparently not very effective. But $99 the pair is too sad. In my case the OEM so-called "guards" were among the free items negotiated with the dealer. Long story, low purchase pric...

Here I go again. The tranny runs a lot hotter than the rear drive housing, especially with the CAT right under it. Hot & cold cycles can soften/weaken most surfaces and finishes and especially if exposed to dirt you can get dulling. I've used KLASSE for 2 decades with no dulling or peeling on ho...

Oh, I guess we all know not to seal or wax chrome...? Chrome needs to breathe. Sealing it will eventually produce rust pits, maybe bubbling, yah?

I just use the All in One now because it's easier. Diluted with water (either in a container or on a wet rag) it makes a good cleaner. For a coating I just apply it from a damp rag without rubbing unless there is a defect on the surface. Usually just a bit of light rubbing is sufficient. Very little...

I found the best deal here for clear plastic adhesive "Stongard" paint and headlamp protector kits and sheets cut to order. It's the material you will find on painted wear areas of your Rockster.

Agree Stantons are probably the best way to go for reasonable protection and appearance. OEM guards are (IMO) protection for not much more than a tip-over. I have them and if they get trashed I will likely replace with Stantons. If I did not have them I might install the Stantons. One issue of consi...

AS bIG pAPA SEZ: Wash & dry. Works fine. Paint quality is very high here. Any polish will add a slight satin sheen to the black. that being sed.... I DO apply KLASSE to mine. It is an acrylic base product that bonds with the finish and does add some satin sheen to the black, but I don't care. Th...
