Re: cast wheel designers = the suck

moot for me now, the R was destroyed on wednesday in a crash. thanks to a healthy dose of luck and ATGATT (bmw rallye 2 pro jacket/trousers, bmw gs gloves, bmw allround boots, shoei xr1000 lid) i escaped with only a fracture in one pinky finger, no other injuries. hand/forearm will be in a fibreglas...

cast wheel designers = the suck

why the hell can't the rear wheel's valve point sideways, like the front one does? The overwhelming majority of fuel places' air hose fittings here simply won't fit in the tight space available at the valve on the rear wheel. My tyre inflation gadget attached to my workshop compressor at home fits, ...

Job done. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3229/3047840415_28f2282475.jpg Used Givi PLX688 racks (without the ridiculous topcase garbage that nobody with half a brain cell would ever use, ie. order PLX688KIT as well) to secure them to the bike: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3039/3047846757_d98a550a69...

Re: Has anyone had their ASC activated?

Deliberately, yes. WOT in first and second gears. It did allow the front wheel to lift off the ground and stay there for a while, but not very high. Also have had it intercede on slippery wet roads. It allowed the rear tyre to step sideways a bit, but not very much, a bit like my Dakar when winding ...

awesome, well done! http://sportstracker.nokia.com/ if you have an S60-based Nokia phone with Bluetooth or builtin GPS, check that out. It was originally intended for tracking outdoor workouts (walking, riding, etc) but I think it is potentially a fantastic tool for sharing great motorcycle rides wi...

Re: BMW Lo Rider concept

I love the old BMWs. Have seen some interesting things done with them. This, for example, has an engine from an R100, I believe, and a sidecar from some other model, yet it all seems to "match" quite well

Re: BMW Lo Rider concept

They've had engines making over 100hp for quite a while -- K and R bikes, and of course the HP2 models. A pic I saw recently which I strongly suspect was the upcoming S675 supersport had one-sided front suspension. Looked weird. Might have only been a prototype, of course, but in BMW land about 50% ...

I'm planning to order some of these for my Dakar: http://www.blm-accessories.com/BikeModels.cfm?Model=F650 I've dealt with Bill@BLM before (got one of their F650 luggage racks) and am a big fan. Hopefully he'll be able to come up with some kind of mounting arrangement for an R1200R and Honda CB400 a...

Yeah, in big hot Australia it seems impossible to buy a BMW roadbike without heated grips. Strange.

my local dealer said they have a $5k discount right now on K1200GT/S/R bikes due to the new K1300 range that is imminent. If you're about to buy a K1200, push hard on the price

Re: Topboxes

haven't actually got my R12R yet (saturday next week, so close!) but I bought an AndyStrapz A-Bagz tail/seat bag for it. 220AUD. Test fitted on my Dakar, pics here . It should fit the R12R nicely. I actually ordered two of them; the other is on the SO's Honda CB400 Super Four, it fits very well ther...

Re: I've acquired another motorcycle

Looks like a fun little project. I've been looking around for a nice Kawasaki GT750 for similar reasons. They look a bit less like a cruiser than this Suzuki, and are shaft-drive. A guy at work has one and while I've not sat on or ridden it, it certainly caught my eye. Having said that... 27 safety ...

Re: Cracked headlight lens *grumble*

I hate our exchange rate vs. USD right now :-( TwistedThrottle shipped my Givi PLX racks this week. Cost me a farking large pile of beans (about 500AUD) but these plus a big pile of AndyStrapz gear for both mine and the SO's bikes is still 700AUD cheaper than BMW racks + bags. I can't believe how mu...

Re: R12R not great on dirt roads

Scenery like the above-posted is my main reason for keeping my Dakar. Got an invite today for the 2009 BMW-Australia GS Safari in Tasmania. 2000km of beautiful wilderness in 6 days. Got a few things to sort out first, mainly new knobbies and finishing my Pro-Oiler install but should all be easily do...

Re: Rust on rear disc

I buy them because they are interesting bikes. Despite the many many problems, my F650 is still good fun to ride. When I tested an R12GS prior to ordering my R12R (couldn't find an R12R to demo) I loved the feel of the Telelever front end, boxer engine and shaft drive. This is not the same as saying...

Re: Rust on rear disc

My comment was utterly unrelated to your origin, in fact the"whinging pom" connection hadn't even occurred to me until you mentioned it just now. If you want quality parts you'll need to buy something other (and likely cheaper) than a BMW, that much is clear. Price is irrelevant.

Re: Rust on rear disc

A bike that costs that much should really have quality parts fitted. I concur, but if you must remain bloody-minded about it, at least have the courtesy to not whine on forums. I suppose you'd buy the same crappy rust-prone rotors when the time came to replace them, just because you paid lots of mo...

Re: Rust on rear disc

Stop using crappy BMW parts, then?

Galfer rotors are pretty popular in the F650 community, do they make them for the R1200R?
