FRbank6 - The cracking on your Parabellum was most likely caused by the lower mounting screw being a little too tight. I've never experienced a similar problem on any of my Parabellum shields, but have had that happen on other after-market shields.

I have a large Parabellum (22" as I recall) on my 03 R1150R and I love it. Very secure, no buffeting (I ride with an open-faced helmet so that's very important to me). I've had Parabellum shields on many of my bikes over the years and find they are first rate, both in quality and protection fro...

Try these. They were reviewed recently by one of the moto mags and received such rave reviews I bought a pair. Top drawer. It'll be the last pair you buy.

Glad you survived your encounter with the van. I had a similar experience when a woman pulled out in front of me from a stop sign, totally unexpectedly, just a block from home. I was on my Yamaha FJ (no anti-lock) and, of course, my first instinct was to hammer the front brake -- with predictable re...

Thanks guys! I second everything they said about the R1150R ... except for the seat. They claimed it had a gel insert and was very comfy!!!! The stock seat is/was the worst feature of this bike as far as I and a lot of others on this forum are concerned. It was usually the first thing to go. Now, I ...

Motoradguy - Are all those bikes really yours? You should open your own shop. How does the 1200GS compare with the new R1200R? Any reason to choose one over the other? Engines seem to be the same. Is gearing pretty much the same? Handling?

Until I retired a couple of years ago, I rode to work every day, rain or shine, in DC traffic for 30 years! The only time I didn't take the bike was when there was ice or snow. Even so, I have gotten caught in some doozy unexpected snow storms. The temperature is not really the limiting factor if yo...

In another life, I used to work as a claims adjuster for a major insurance company. It is not uncommon to encounter situations where people are not entirely truthful on their insurance declarations, but only once in my years there did we ever seek to actually deny a claim and that's because our insu...

There seems to be quite a few different "fixes." On mine, the only cables that are not captured by the handguards are the brake and clutch cables. Both ride on top of the handguards. I had to loosen the hold-down screws to move them up out of the way, but everything works just fine ... and...

I have the Stantons and like them very much. A quality piece, much better than the skimpy little BMW plastic guards. Fortunately, I haven't had to put them to the test yet, but they should do the job for which they were intended -- protect the heads in low speed tip-over. "Crash bars" used...

That's quite a stable you have there NotDeadYet. How do you like the new Vespa? I'd love to have one. As for your question, I think all exhausts emit a fair amount of water vapor on start-up, depending upon weather conditions. I have a Supertrapp muffler on mine, but have kept the cat (so far). Have...

Gene - Don't buy life insurance as an "investment portfolio." It is a terrible investment. The only life insurance most people ever need is a basic term policy. Anything more than that is almost always a waste of money. Oh, and they can't refuse to pay simply because you got killed riding ...

I wouldn't ride without a Throttlemeister. They are great -- much better than Bob's wrist rest which never worked properly. However, for elegant simplicity (not to mention low cost) nothing beats the old drilled set screw that used to come on the old R and K bikes -- before we became such a litigiou...

"In short, Arbreacames has the right answer." That's basically correct. As I recall, my Odyssey came with a note to the effect that if it ever got "severely discharged" you would need a high-powered, or automotive charger to bring it back up to speed. The Battery tender is a tric...
