Re: Tire recommendations?

macx....I'm from about 25 miles North of Cape Girardeau. When I needed tires on my R1150R I had planned to go with Metzler 880's but one of the sizes wasn't available at the time. I ended up with Michelin Pilot Road 2 tires and at +/-1,500 miles on them there is NO sign of wear. I'm no hot shot ride...

Re: Foot Rain Protectors

Hmmm...I like the Aerostitch overshoes. They might tide me over, unless I decide to throw caution and budget to the wind and buy the $200+ waterproof riding boots I'd like to have.

Re: Foot Rain Protectors

I did some more searching and found Wunderlich guards for above and below the heads to protect legs and feet. They're rather proud of their stuff. $200+ for the upper guards and $100+ for the lowers. Looks like Lexan (or similar) and a couple simple brackets. I think I'll take a good close look at m...

Foot Rain Protectors

I got caught in a light rain again last evening on my 2004 R1150R and about all that ever gets really wet on me is from the knees down. I did some searching on the 'net for deflectors that would protect my legs and especially my feet from what I would guess is the splash of water from the front tire...

Re: Battery advice

Whoa, potential ABS problems? Now you have my attention! $50 difference in the battery price wouldn't be enough to even roll my bike into the BMW shop to diagnose a ABS problem. BMW gel it is. Thanks

Re: Battery advice

After talking with my BMW dealer today and being quoted $178 for a BMW battery, I'm considering ordering a Odyssey PC680 for my 2004 R1150R. Summit Racing in Ohio had them priced at $121.xx. Are the connections on the battery the correct type and in the correct position for the cables? Odyssey does ...

Re: BMW charger?

Thanks for the help. I was thinking/hoping that the male lug was a battery + lug and that I'd just hook the charger - to a convenient spot of the engine or frame. I wanted to ask first rather than fry the whole electrical system.

Re: BMW charger?

Still on the subject of battery charging but yet a different question...... I tried starting my 2004 R1150R today for the first time in about 2 weeks. It has been cranking more slowly lately it seems, but today (in 30-ish degree temp) I got a few revolutions of the engine and then the relay chatteri...

Re: Tire recommendation(s)?

I finally got my new tires today. Metzler 880's were going to be unavailable for a few more weeks from the dealer's supplier so I ended up with Michelin Pilot Road 2's. I had a tough time trying to make a choice between the two brands since both had good recommendations, so availability took care of...

Re: Tire recommendation(s)?

Wow! I didn't expect so much participation in my question. Thanks very much! After trying to digest everyone's input I think I've narrowed down my tire choice to the Michelin Pilot Road 2's or the Metzler 880's. I didn't exactly do a count on the recommendations but they both seem to have a lot of s...

Re: Tire recommendation(s)?

You have all come through with recommendations and preferences in a way I can make a better choice. I already feel like I'm a more informed buyer compared to going into my BMW dealership and taking his recommendation only. I certainly trust him, but then again he may be personally or financially bia...

Tire recommendation(s)?

I bought a 2004 R1150R about 2 months ago. I've put about 2,000 Miles on it and it's time for a pair of tires (rear has a non-findable slow leak). My riding is what I'd call "utility", mostly using the bike as much as possible rather than take a car. I did do one 850+ mile weekend trip (wi...
