When I set the key to On with the kill-switch disabled, ready to star the bike, i can hear the fuel pump prime for a few seconds then stop.

Can't help with the running/noise issue, but the brake light might be the ABS system which flashes initially until it's activated by riding few miles per hour (forget how many exactly)- then it's good to go and the warning light should go out.
