Kochmann boots are supposed to be great, although I've never tried a pair. I have two pair of custom-made Bates road-racing boots and they are great! Top quality leather, fine fit ... and they don't make you look like you're something out of Road Warrior. They're not waterproof because good leather ...

Cycle World Test

This month's Cycle World has a test of the new R1200R. They don't normally care for BMWs (I think the switch gear confuses them), but they loved this bike! Said it "hauls ass." Of course, with substantially less weight, significantly more horses (109) and torque, along with a completely re...

Socalrob - Do you have any idea how you were caught -- radar, lidar, vascar, other? You said the road was clear, no traffic ... so where was the cop? One of the worst things that can happen to an otherwise law-abiding middle-class working stiff in this great country is to get caught up in our screwe...

I have them on my cars, but frankly, I don't see any real benefit on a motorcycle. If you have a decent one-man brake bleeder, you can do the job pretty easily without the speed bleeders.

Help! How to remove 02 sensor

Hello all you experts - I'm trying to install a Staintune collector and Supertrapp muffler in place of the stock exhaust on the R1150R ... but how do you remove the oxygen sensor ? Does it screw in, or plug in, or what? To remove it, do you have to disconnect it from the wiring harness? I know many ...

I had a slipping starter clutch in my K100. I called the dealer to make an appointment to bring it in to have it fixed. His first question was what kind of oil was I using. When I told him Castrol synthetic, he said to change to a motorcycle oil and see if that made any difference. I did ... and had...

Hey fnfalman - Care to compare your Roadster to your Tuono? The latest issue of Cycle World had a comparison test (of sorts) among "naked" bikes. Their top pick was the Tuono ... but, of course, the BMW was not included.

I'd be more than a little leery about using an oil designed for diesel trucks in a motorcycle. This month's Motorcyclist tech section has a letter from a guy who wrote in to say that he changed the oil in his motorcycle but only had 3 quarts of motorcycle oil. He added a 4th quart of car oil and was...

Check out this rather detailed report. It's one of a number I've seen that say to avoid Fram filters. They are cheaply made. If you don't believe it, cut one apart and compare it to WIX or Purolator.

Well, as FNFALMAN aptly pointed out, you are making good power considering what is lost from power at the crank to what actually gets to the ground. The Techlusion comes with detailed instructions and is tunable ... to a point. It's really a kind of a crude system, but works ... and it's cheaper tha...

Sure you can use non-BMW oil filters. In fact, you can use oil filters for 4-cylinder BMW cars if you are so inclined. BMW filters are well-made, but super expensive. The best filter out there for these bikes, as far as I'm concerned, are the Perf-form high performance oil filters from a small firm ...

I have a Techlusion on my bike ... to tune out most of an annoying surge. It doesn't really give you any more power, nor is it supposed to. Trying to make a lot more power with these bikes is a waste of time and money, anyway. It just ain't gonna happen. If it's horsepower you want, get a Jap bike.

Priapismic -Because of the high altitude in the Rockies, engines require less octane to make the same power. Thus, gas formulated for that region is lower in octane rating, but gives you the same power as higher-octane fuel at sea level. :)

Good idea! I'm probably in for something. Here's the web site for Works Performance. It looks like their front shock for the R1150R is $419 and the rear $589.

Works Performance will also build the shock to suit. I've had several on various of my bikes and they are worth every penny. I haven't priced them for the Roadster. They are not cheap, but my bet is they would come in cheaper than Ohlins and maybe Wilber.
